There are year-round activities available at Clear Creek. Winter activities include: sledding; tobogganing; hunting; cross-country skiing and camping, along with environmental education programs.
During the summer months, Clear Creek State Park offers many recreational opportunities. Among them are canoeing; hiking; picnicking; fishing; swimming and camping.
Whether you have a day or a week, you'll find what you're looking for at Clear Creek. If you want to bring the family out for a day trip, pack the swimsuits, sunscreen, sand buckets, hiking shoes, a picnic and plenty of water and set out for the park. There are twenty-five miles of beautiful trails to explore. Choose one and enjoy stretching your legs after the drive out. Notice the mountain laurel and rhododendrons that smell so beautiful and keep your eye out for the wildlife as deer, bear, turkey and grouse call Clear Creek State Park home.
When you've finished hiking, mosey over to a shady pavilion and unpack that picnic. There are over three hundred picnic tables in the park with plenty of fireplaces and restrooms. You may reserve pavilions up to eleven months in advance, so they're great for birthdays and family reunions, too.
After eating, slather on that sunscreen, change into your swimsuits, and grab the beach toys. It's time to go swimming! Clear Creek boasts a one hundred eighty foot sand beach open from late May to mid September. The beach is open from 8:00am to sunset and lifeguards are on duty. Shade trees surround the small man-made lake, perfect for when the kiddos need to cool off and get out of the sun. Let the children swim and play until they're tired and then call it a day!
If you've got time to camp, great! Clear Creek State Park has tent camping, trailer camping (with a dump station) as well as cabins and yurts! The area is open from April through December. Prices vary depending on which type of camping interests you and there are some requirements (such as cabins and yurts must be rented for one week), so be sure to call the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at 814-752-2368 or check out their website at www.state.pa.us keyword: state parks for reservation information.
No matter which type of camping you choose, rest assured that your family will have a relaxing, laid back, good time together. You can go fishing in the Clarion River, which has small mouth bass and trout and pan fish, or enjoy the stocked and native brook trout found in Clear Creek.
If fishing isn't your thing, how about a canoe trip down the Clarion river? The ten-mile trip from Clear Creek to Cook Forest State Park is very popular and lasts roughly four and a half hours. You may bring your own canoe or rent one from the park. After a long day of fishing and canoeing, you'll be ready for songs around the campfire. On the remaining days of your stay, choose from the many beautiful trails throughout the forest to hike and explore, or spend your days lollygagging on the beach. Take part in park-led campfire programs in the evening and make sure to visit the nature center while you're there.
Pets are welcome in all areas of Clear Creek with the exception of the swimming beach. They must be controlled and on a leash at all times. Remember to clean up after them and offer them plenty of water.
The park does feature campsites, restrooms, picnicking spaces and parking spots for people of all abilities. Call for reservations or assistance.
Clear Creek State Park is a wonderful place to retreat to with the whole family. To just get away from the hustle and bustle and spend some time communing with mother nature. The air smells so clean and the trees are a beautiful deep green. There really is something for everyone at Clear Creek...just ask my son, Nolan! He spent two entire days playing in the sand, swimming a bit, and hiking in the woods. The bulk of his time though was spent nestled down close to the ground in the shade and trying to find crayfish in a stream! He was in five-year old heaven! He just loves Clear Creek State Park!
