Clear Vision in a Short Sighted World

Being the Real Thing when Fake is in Fashion

Solomon Steele
I was thinking about an article I saw in the local paper some time back. The article was written by someone who seemed to be very upset by the fact that certain Christian groups had so strongly opposed certain issues. Among those issues were subjects like homosexuality, same sex marriage, abortion, evolution, etc. He was also frustrated by the fact that they support such unpopular issues like prayer in school, monogamy, creationism, abstinence, etc etc. What really made me shake my head in amazement was the fact that at the end of his article he pointed out that he was a Christian and an ordained minister. This kind of person is not really as rare as I might hope. In fact there have been many so called Christians which I have encountered over the years, who, although they say they are Christians, do not hold views which are consistent with the teaching of scripture and the traditional views and values of the 2000 year old church. These folks often explain their position by saying that one must not take the bible so literally and that one must be able to think for himself, because, after all, these are modern times and many things have changed and many scientific discoveries have been made and so on and so forth. Sounds pretty reasonable eh? In point of fact, it is not reasonable at all, and this person is living in what I have come to refer to as a false reality.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!
Many people in our day and age are living in a false reality. They have believed lies and half-truths and thus armed have gone out with a completely unhealthy and unsustainable idea of how life can be. They are convincing themselves that they can lie when it helps them and get by with it, take what they have not earned and have no right to and yet say its not stealing, I have seen them calling good evil and evil good, it goes on and on. As dumb as this may seem on the surface it has actually been a problem for man since the dawn of time. The person mentioned in the paragraph above is such a fellow. He has convinced himself that God is OK with homosexuality even though there is no basis for that belief anywhere in reality. When Christians tell him that the Bible says homosexuality is an abomination to God, he gets angry with them and says they are forcing their beliefs on him. That is another example of a false reality emerging from his weary mind. Why does he think Christians shouldn't quote the Bible? He thinks they should just pull their beliefs out of thin air like he does? He willingly overlooks the fact that a Christian is a Christian because he believes God. As such we get our views on what is right and wrong from Gods word. If we don't receive our beliefs from Gods word then we are no different from an atheist. We would just be making it up on the basis of what we think in our own imaginations. It is far more reasonable to turn to the one who knows everything and has revealed it to us in his book called the Bible.

Be on the Lookout
My friend if you want life to go well with you seek to know truth. This will inevitably begin in a personal relationship with God in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus said, " I am the truth" He is the creator and definer of reality, and around him all lesser truths revolve. As you grow in this relationship and knowledge of truth you must develop what is called a biblical world view. Seeing the world and all its trappings through the glasses of the word of God. Is this unacceptable for you? For the man mentioned above the word of God was not good enough. He is immersed in false realities. And he is so enamored with these false perceptions that he vigorously resists any thing that may break it down. His condition is very unhealthy and will end very unhappy for him if God doesn't save him soon. I feel deeply sorry for folks in that condition, yet I know they have chosen it for themselves and would most likely hate me for pointing it out. Many of the leaders of our world are in this same condition, our scientists, doctors, journalists, politicians, educators, businessmen and more are deeply immersed in false realities. They spend millions to send messages to people on other worlds when no such people even exist, meanwhile folks right here at home go without basic needs. They spend millions to find a missing link, though there is no such thing, yet all the while over looking the family in there own back yard. They create legislation and make laws taking away basic freedoms because they somehow are sure that they know better than God what people need. Abortion called "a woman's right to choose", sexual perversion called "alternate lifestyle". On and on it goes. It is maddening to watch my fellow man throw away everything that really matters in exchange for nothing.

what now?
My efforts in my future articles will be to offer some clear and biblical insights into these false realities and in such a case perhaps I can be a help to someone who is contending right now with some of these conflicting world views. It is in no way intended to incite anger or hostility, and I definitely don't want to hurt any ones feelings, my motive is purely love. I do hope to clear the smoke on some things that often are a source of confusion for folks who want to be Christians but may at times find themselves weighed down by the baggage that we often pick up in our day to day lives and in our life before Jesus came in. So, that said, I know some folks may be offended by some of my articles. I know that some folks are determined to hang onto those cherished falsehoods no matter what. But it is my sincere desire to see everyone come to a place of maturity in their personal lives to where they can honestly seek truth and accept it even if it goes against their personal wants and desires. And, while I don't really think of myself as the best example of how a Christian ought to act and live I do know the truth will stand on its own regardless of how well (or not so well) any of us personify it in our daily lives and attitudes. My efforts will simply be to separate out the true from the false and reveal to my readers the fact that folks can be living in a false reality and not even know it. Will this be easy? I don't expect so. Oddly, there are some folks who claim they don't even believe there is any such thing as truth. Obviously there is no one more blind than he who refuses to see, so I realize that I can't help everyone. But, I can try to shine a light where ever possible, and that is what I want to do. So, when you see me trying to tackle issues in politics, religion, science and social, you will have a better idea of what I am doing. I believe this is what I should do. God help me.

Amen! People need to hear the truth, even though they do not want to hear it. The Lord will certainly bless your efforts as you shine the Light of Truth into a world lost in the darkness.

The Bible teaches us to pray for "all" mankind, even to the far corners of the earth. Thank you for your very important coverage of issues that seem to get "swept under the rug". You do show much wisdom in your writing.

Wow - another brave and true piece from Solomon! Like my motto says, what is right is not always popular and what is popular is not always right.
