Clearly "Let Me Be Clear" is Barack Obama's Favorite Clarity Phrase

President Obama Clarifies with "Let Me Be Clear" an Awful Lot

Will Stape
I'll be clear. This clearly was an article I had to write. It's quite clear that by bringing you this information, things will be a lot clearer to you. So, in the spirit of that clarity, let me be perfectly clear. President Barack Obama enjoys being clear. Often he prefaces a big speech, or emphasizes an important point, by telling his audience that he's going to be clear. Clearly, he asks for their polite permission to clear the air, by saying: Let me be clear.

Clarity in speech conveys a message clearly, and who doesn't want to be more clear when communicating? To provide instances of President Obama's clear conversational style, here are just a few samples of clear instances, when he's used his favorite phrase for crystal clear clarity.

On the war on terrorism, "Now let me be clear: We are indeed at war with al-Qaida and its affiliates."

On our education system, "Let me be clear: Success should be judged by results, and data is a powerful tool to determine results."

On the nuclear threat posed by Iran, ""Let me be clear: Iran's nuclear and ballistic missile activity poses a real threat, not just to the United States, but to Iran's neighbors and our allies."

On the auto industry bailout, "Let me be clear: The United States government has no interest in running GM."

On the image of Africa, "Let me be clear: Africa is not the crude caricature of a continent at perpetual war."

On America's less than stellar record on climate change, "Let me be clear: Those days are over."

On the health care debate, ""...so let me be clear: If you like your doctor or health care provider, you can keep them. If you like your health care plan, you can keep that too."

Even before assuming the presidency, Barack Obama used the favored phrase, "Let me be clear: It's outrageous that we find ourselves in a position where taxpayers must bear the burden for the greed and irresponsibility of Wall Street and Washington."

It's clear that all of us strive for clarity by clearly using phrases which can clear up confusion. Clearing up things by clearly informing listeners of your clear intentions to clear the air is clearly good for clarity. President Obama wants us all to be clear on his clarity. Is this crystal clear enough for you?

Amazing how the mind's eye sees clarity as a lack of opaqueness, yet with every syllable issuing forth from our Feckless Leader's mouth, the clarity fogs over, the horizon becomes a distant memory and a phantasmagoric reality manifests. Am I being clear?

You had fun with this I can tell.

Haha! Great piece, Will! Obama certainly does overuse this phrase all the time! Nice wordplay & humor in your writing! I love it. I will be sharing this one with some friends and family. Nice work!
