Cleopatra VII Philopator

The Last Pharaoh

Walton S. Tissot
Caesar's blood upon the steps,
The courtship over, the will read;
A split republic for an age of peace,
Beholden only to the river Nile's great basket.

Caesar's blood; the prince of Egypt.
A mother's charm and cunning plot,
To war; civil and otherwise,
You just can't have two Caesars.

Through the smoke and roaring bedlam,
The loss sum total and no one's queen.
Home, and child, and station;
It was suicide.

Wine so fine or vehement strike of an asp,
Death by her own hand unchanged to wit,
Both ladies-in-waiting, and all the dreams,
Of crest and crown and kingdom so fair.
