CLEP Testing for College Credit

Dana
In the past few weeks I have come to realize that many people don't know about CLEP testing. CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program.

What this means is, college students can pay a fee to test out of a number of core classes such as Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, English Composition and so on. There are 34 tests in all.

The testing fee is around $70 per subject. This may seem like a lot of money to take a single test but it really isn't when you put things into perspective.

The classes at my college cost around $1200 each. If I can "CLEP out" of even one class; that saves me quite a bit of money and time.

Though my University is on the higher end of the monetary scale; Seventy dollars is still less expensive per class than any school I have ever seen.

A simple search online will bring about a variety of study materials for the tests. So, there are study materials available to help prepare you. The large chain style bookstores are certain to have books to help you as well. Check your local library in the reference section for study guides. Mine carries them but you have to do all of your studying at the library because they are not able to be checked out.

Almost 3,000 schools accept CLEP credits, so this is something to look into if you are planning on or currently going to school. Check with your school of choice to see if CLEP testing is an option for you. The student counselor should be able to tell you.

A very informative site to look at for more information is www.collegeboard.com/clep.

If you are looking to save money and time while earning your college degree, I strongly urge you to look into CLEP testing.
