Cleveland Area Farmers Markets

Go Green in Cleveland

Robin Neorr
Farmers markets not only have the freshest vegetables, but they give you the opportunity to stay local with your produce. You will be following the hundred mile rule: not eating anything that was grown outside of a hundred mile radius.

Cleveland has a number of great farmers markets. I will highlight three which I can not wait to frequent once they open for the season.

Kamms' Corner Farmers Market: This is by far my favorite Cleveland Farmers Market. It was voted Best Farmers market by Cleveland Scene Magazine. It is open every Sunday from June through October from 10am until 2pm. The market is located off of Lorain Avenue in the municipal parking lot on West 168th. There are plenty of signs to direct you and there is never a shortage of parking.

The farmers market not only offers locally grown produce, but breads, baked goods, pasta, prepared Greek food, cheese, honey, jams, herbs and flowering plants. Ever week is different so you will need to make this part of you weekly routine.

The market offers a lot more then the best place to get your weekly produce shopping done. It offers and annual plant swap, horse rides, and weekly chef demonstrations by local and regional restaurant chefs.

North Union Farmers Market Lakewood: If you need your fresh produce fix in the middle of the week the North Union Farmers Market in Lakewood is the place to go. The Farmers market is open every Wednesday from June 3 - September 30th. It is located in the Kaufmann Park Parking Lot behind the Drug Mart at 15412 Detroit Avenue. Free parking is available down the street in the rear parking lot of the Lakewood Masonic Temple, 15300 Detroit Avenue.

The market offers fresh produce and flowers galore. If you want fresh maple Syrup from an Ohio farmer the Lakewood Farmers market is the way to go. Most vendors accept the Ohio Direction card making it a perfect option for those facing economic challenges.

North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park: Every Saturday from 9am until 1pm starting on April 18th this market is filled to capacity with farms from nine different counties. The selection includes fresh fruit, jams, jellies, maple syrup, and flowers. This is one of the flagship farmers markets in Ohio and so easy to find. Signs off of Crocker Road will point you to the location across from Urban Active .

We grow our own veggies, but use our local market for fresh fruits. If we want to put up some vegetables for the winter, we may pick up some veggies from the market to add to ours.
