Cleveland, Ohio, the 10th "Most Dangerous" City

How Dangerous is Life in Cleveland Ohio?

Rachel Fisk
According to 13st annual Morgan Quitno Press rankings of the "Most Dangerous Cities" in America, Cleveland Ohio was ranked number 10. This is a harsh reality for those of us leaving in Cleveland Ohio, but can we argue with this ranking? Cleveland is unfortunately known for our bad reputation and losing sports teams, but is Cleveland an unsafe place to live?

I think that's its unfair statement to mark the entire city of Cleveland as dangerous, but the lack of economic growth is spreading like a cancer. Many big cities have areas that are "Run Down" or "Low Income," and this is were crime seems to live. When a city has lost major sources of income these areas become larger and larger until the disease consumers the entire city. So what cause's this devouring disease?

Any large city that has lost substantial work dooms the people in the community to failure. Company's leave and take with them jobs, money, and property value. Without money and pride in your city a thick disparity sets in, and some people take risks they wouldn't take in normal circumstances. Crime can increase when people have no means of income and are forced to literally scrape, and fight to survive. Does this make it ok to shoot someone and take their wallet? Of course not, but when do the leaders stop watching the problem and start fixing it?

It's true city leaders can't take 100% of the fall for criminals, but they have contributed to the problem. When you hear the word crime the first thing that should come to my mind is police. In resent years a majority of the Cleveland Police force has been laid-off. With not enough police officers to fight crime how do we stop it? Crime is an issue for many different reasons and problems that variety between cities. Stop the poverty, and you'll stop the crime.

Lol, I didn't proofread my own comment, either...but then I don't author a column and I'm not an on-air personality. Use "an" before words that begin with vowels: you're not "a on-air personality". Sorry, it's just shocking to see such poor English.

It's certainly not high on literacy, apparently. How can you make publish writing that is so full of simple errors?

You wrote 13st for 13th, leaving for living, were for where, company's for companies, and variety for varies. You must have god-awful schools.

If you see murder, robbery, rape and other vicious crimes going on around you, maybe you should call 9-1-1...

I live in Cleveland and it is getting worse by the day. I see murder, robbery, rape and other vicious crimes going on around me and on TV and I think to myself "this danger is real and I need to get out of here". Nice job on this article.

I visited Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during my Single Mom Westward Ho road trip and found the waterfront area to be very beautiful and safe.

If you do view that video below, let me explain why I rant about Detroit in it. A while before this video, me and my friend were shooting tourism videos in Detroit, a crackhead asked my friend for money to buy a Faygo pop. He looked convincing because he was holding an empty Faygo 2 liter, my friend handed him a dollar and he is immediately goaded for more money. So my friend hands him another dollar and our crackhead friend stops bugging us. The thing is a 2 liter of Faygo pop only costs about 75 cents, the man was obviously looking to buy some crack or dope. Detroit was recently rated #1 most dangerous city. It's not that bad of a place in my opinion, I actually sort of like the crack heads around here. If you want to see my video review of Detroit, check it out here: http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/21/188/City-of-Detroit-Michigan/178469
