Falls Park Sports Fields
Opportunities for sports recreation abound at Cleveland Park in Greenville, South Carolina. As you enter the park from Washington Street, the sandy volleyball court tucked off to the right is pretty easy to miss. The baseball field, on the other hand, sticks right out. It is a well managed 275-foot field with fresh lime on the dirt and well clipped grass. There are also several immaculate tennis courts that are clearly cared for by both the park visitors and the city staff alike. The courts do get a little busy during the weekends, so be sure to plan accordingly and follow basic tennis court etiquette.
Falls Park Playground
For the young ones, there are a couple of playgrounds that provide enough fun and exercise to make Cleveland Park your destination for quality time. There is a small playground sandwiched between the tennis court and baseball field that has some slides, monkey bars and other tradition contraptions that might be good for children who are particular shy around crowds. The much busier play ground is located on the other side of the main parking area. The rubber floored romping area has some normal slides and swings, but most of the facility is so space age that it defies description, consisting of the most bizarre playground obstacle courses I've ever seen.
Seasons of Falls Park
No matter what time of the year it may be, Cleveland park is a great urban destination for any nature lover looking to observe some natural plant life. In the early spring, the beautiful flowering trees located near the parking area and elsewhere provide a great photo opportunity and are soon followed by a series of blossoming wild flowers that lasts throughout the season. In the summer, the almost overwhelming lush green of the huge trees and bushes provide a clear and cheerful reminder of how Greenville earned it's name. In the fall, of course, the leaves become even more striking as they change in color into brilliant hues of red, yellow and orange. Even the dead of winter is welcoming to a nature enthusiast with opportunities for peaceful, austere strolls through the wooded paths ofGreenville's Cleveland Park.
