Cleveland, Tennessee Tattoo Artist Sets Guinness World Record

Abby Greenhill
Many people do what they can to help others all year long. They provide food to pantries and donate money to organizations that are overwhelmed with requests for food. Holiday time these giving people open their hearts and do even more, as evidenced by a Cleveland, Tennessee tattoo artist and former Marine, John Cross.

John "Junior" Cross started this year's plan in motion last week. He wanted to get people to donate toys for needy kids in the area. He named his quest "Toys for Tats". His goal was to break the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous tattoo session and he wanted people to donate toys, therefore, "Toys for Tats" was born. This was his third year and he probably will be right back at it next year because he does so much good for the kids who are often neglected.

He started tattooing last Monday and he had one-half of his goal under his belt by 2:00 pm on Tuesday. Wednesday at 3:55 pm his goal was accomplished. He was dog tired, as you can imagine. He broke the Guinness World Record and he received enough toys to make Christmas 2010 special for 75 kids in the local community.

John and his wife, Misti, thanked everyone for their participation. I saw a segment on the news about this tattoo session and the x-Marine had tears in his eyes when he spoke about "Toys for Tats". Now he will be in the world record book, that's quite an achievement.

It wasn't just locals who showed up to donate toys and check out this tattooing session. It seems he has made a name for himself and folks wanted to help. People often think that they cannot make a difference, this proves their theory wrong. John "Junior" Cross stepped up to the plate and helped. We need more like him. Good job Junior and thanks!
