How to Get Vintage Postcards
If you do not already have your own private collection of vintage postcards to work with, you can find many different styles and selections of vintage postcards on eBay, other auction sites, and even antique stores can have vintage postcards for sale. You can usually pick up a small lot of postcards for under $10. It does not matter whether the postcard has been used to or not, since your decorations will be focusing on the picture itself. Make sure that when you choose your vintage postcards that they are in good condition. Wear around the edges is fine, but a rip along the middle may end up attracting more attention.
Choosing the Right Cards
Have a lot of vintage postcards but don't know which ones to choose? If you want to stick with a theme or color scheme, it will be much easier to choose the postcards to incorporate into your room design. For example, if you are looking to express a travel theme in your room, use postcards that show places from around the world. And if you just want to go with a color scheme, find postcards that are rich in colors that compliment your wall or furniture colors.
Displaying the Postcards
There are many different ways you can display vintage postcards in your home. The most obvious option is to frame a single postcard or use a collage frame to put together a series of postcards. The collage frames work well if you have a theme running through the postcards that you have chosen, such as different buildings from the same city, or postcards that may come from different places but feature the same subject.
You can also get creative with your postcards. If you have a coffee table or side table with a glass top you can use this to feature your vintage postcards. Bar tops are another place where vintage postcards will work great for decoration. There are so many ways to display vintage postcards that you will easily come up with some ideas of your own.
Remember that if you have vintage postcards that are special to you or worth money, avoid using any type of tape or glue on them. You may also want to place them in an area of the room where it will not get direct sunlight in order to avoid the postcard fading.
