Clever Ways to Fix Minor Wardrobe Malfunctions

Fix it and Forget It!

Dina Montgomery

There are many things that can and will go wrong with our wardrobes, but you won't have to fear if you know exactly what to do. Knowing what to do and having the necessary tools with you to fix the problem can mean the difference between humiliation and keeping your dignity. Don't fear the unknown when it comes to your wardrobe, try some of these ideas and your risk of suffering another embarrassing wardrobe malfunction will be greatly reduced.

The power of double-sided tape

Double-sided tape is one of the inventions that have saved me a number of times when it comes to my wardrobe. Always keep a few strips in your purse so it's handy when you need it. It can keep you out of trouble with a few malfunctions that may happen with your clothing.

I use it for my jeans that are just a tad too long; I just apply some double-sided tape to the cuff of my pants to shorten them until I can get them altered. You can also use it to hold a button or hem in place until you can get it mended properly. It has saved me numerous times and I don't dare leave home without it.

Remove stains quickly

When it comes to stains on clothes, one of the best pieces of advice anyone could give is to treat the stain as quickly as possible. The quicker you treat the stain, the better of a chance you have of removing it and saving the item of clothing.

My kids get stains on their clothes all the time and blame it on the pizza. I have them remove the garment right away and then I blot it with a clean cloth or paper towel. Removing as much of the stain as I can before attempting to wash it.

After blotting, make sure to pre-treat it with stain remover and throw it into the wash and wash it immediately. Just remember that the longer the stain sits there without attention, the less of a chance you will have of removing it. Never put a stained garment in the dryer, the heat will just set the stain and you will never get it out.

A perfectly situated patch

I don't know how many times I have tried to sew a patch onto my son's pants, only to find after I have finished sewing it on, that it is crooked. I have found a great way to solve this problem and to sew patches on without looking like an amateur, even though I am.

To keep the patch perfectly positioned, staple it in the position you want first. When you have the patch in the position you want with the staples, then you can go ahead and sew it on. You can easily remove the staples after you have sewn the patch onto the pants with a staple remover. Now you have a pair of pants with a perfect patch, and it looks like a pro did it.

Many things can go wrong with our wardrobes, sometimes on a daily basis, but if you know what to do when it happens, you shouldn't have a problem. Try some of these tips and you won't fear another wardrobe malfunction again.
