Clever New Ways and Ideas to Use Cotton

Got Cotton!

Dina Montgomery
Have you ever thought about how you could use those pieces of cotton that you find in pill bottles or the extra balls of cotton under your bathroom sink? I hate to throw things away that might be of use to me some day so I was racking my brain trying to think of how I could possibly use them. Instead of throwing them out, keep them and use some of these ideas and you will find yourself saving them in the future.

Keep arms dry

The worst thing about washing high windows and walls is the water running down your arms as your cleaning. I'm sorry, but this is very annoying and makes me procrastinate in any window washing jobs.

To keep this from happening to you next time you wash high places is to wrap a strip of cotton around your wrists, and secure it in place with a rubber band. No more wet arms and armpits when washing your windows.

Prevent holes in rubber gloves

I go through so many rubber gloves that it's almost embarrassing. My nails always seem to poke through the fingertips of the gloves and that causes holes, and then the gloves are ruined.

To keep this from happening, I put little bits of cotton down into the fingertips of the gloves so my fingernails won't poke through anymore and cause holes. I save so much money because a pair will last longer.

Smell of summer

This is a great way to savor a summer scent and a way to relax in the winter months. Dab your favorite summer scent onto a few cotton balls and place them in a plastic sandwich baggie. Place the plastic baggie in the freezer to help preserve the scent. When you need a pick-me-up just open the baggie and take a whiff. It's almost smells like summer again.

Deodorize your refrigerator

An easy way I like to keep my refrigerator smelling clean and sweet is to use cotton balls. I simply dampen a few cotton balls with vanilla extract, put them on a small saucer or a small plastic container and place them in a convenient spot in my refrigerator.

This keeps sour smells away and can last up to a week or two. It's a great way to give your baking soda a break, which is another way to deodorize your refrigerator.

So next time you find that you have extra cotton padding or cotton balls, use some of these ideas and you will find that you will always want an abundant supply in the future.
