Luna Cookies 'n Cream Delight is a nutrition bar for women distributed by Clif Bar & Co. The bars can be found at grocery stores, health food stores, drug stores and even at some department stores. I paid 99 cents for the bar.
As per the Clif Bar & Co. website, although Luna bars are created to provide the nutrients that women need and sometimes have trouble getting, there is no reason that men can't eat them. It is recommended that children not eat a full bar until their nutrition needs match those of adults. The company has a bar which is designed for growing and active children called the ZBar.
Something notable that is stated on the wrapper is that, "Luna is an active sponsor of the Breast Cancer Fund and it's efforts to eliminate the environmental and preventable causes of the disease."
Nutrition Information
The 1.69-oz bar is made with all natural ingredients and is 70% organic. There are no artificial sweeteners used to create the bar. It is sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice and organic brown rice syrup. It is also low glycemic, so it digests more slowly and doesn't provide a high sugar spike.
Each bar provides 180 calories with 40 of those calories coming from fat. There are no trans fats or animal products. The bar provides 10 grams of protein which comes from soy, along with 3 grams of fiber, and 12 grams of sugar. The wrapper states that the bar is high in calcium and folic acid and rich in antioxidants. One bar provides a daily value of between 10% and 100% of 23 vitamins and minerals. It provides 100% daily value of Vitamins C, E, B6, Folate, and B12.
Taste
Luna Cookies 'n Cream Delight has a layer of creamy white coating on the bottom and swirls of creamy coating on top of the chocolate cookie-type bar. It has a chocolate cookie and icing taste. I really enjoyed this bar. I found that it is both soft and crunchy at the same time. It isn't overly sweet and is quite tasty. It gave me some of the satisfaction of eating a sweet treat while giving me some nutrition.
Final Analysis
I feel that this is a bar that can help satisfy my sweet tooth while providing me with a significant amount of protein and nutrition. I like the fact that it is low glycemic and that the company is committed to using the healthiest ingredients. I also appreciate the fact that the company does not use animal products or ingredients which are genetically engineered. I would purchase this bar in the future as part of a healthy diet, especially for those days when I'm on the go and might not have the time to eat properly.
