When it comes to protein bars many times they leave something to be imagined taste wise. The Clif Builder's bars are not in the same category as the average protein bar. The chocolate and peanut Builder's bar taste more like a candy bar. They are sweet, chewy and crispy.
The chocolate and peanut butter Builder's bars both have a chewy top layer and a crispy rice crispy type bottom and the whole bar is covered completely in chocolate, from top to bottom. The chocolate flavor has chocolate crispy rice and the peanut flavors have not only peanut flavor but have actual peanut pieces in it, my favorite part.
All the ingredients are understandable and probably as natural as you can get for a protein based bar. Some people may have an issue with the fact that there is soy protein isolate in it. In fact it is the first ingredient in the chocolate and peanut butter Builder's bars. If you do not want to eat soy protein isolate then I don't recommend any of the Clif Builder's bars. I personally don't mind it, as it isn't the bulk of my diet.
Both the chocolate and peanut butter Builder's bar flavors have 20 grams of protein. They also have an equal 20 grams of sugar. It is a bit high, but in normal circumstances these should be eaten by active people. Plus, the protein and ingredients make it low glycemic. Calorie wise it is a little high if you plan to eat these as a snack when you aren't active. Each of them has 270 calories per bar. They are also packed with vitamins and minerals, like vitamin A, C, K, calcium, selenium, zinc, molybdenum and many more.
Out of the chocolate and peanut butter flavors I prefer the peanut butter flavor. I would not refuse the chocolate flavor by any means. They both are really good. The peanut butter flavor taste a little sweeter to me, though sugar amounts are the same. I prefer the sweet peanut butter flavor and the peanuts in it. Both are really filling and I like having them as an after workout snack or for days when I just can't seem to get a chance to sit down for a meal.
If you are athletic or just a busy active person, like me, I highly recommend the chocolate and the peanut flavor Clif Builder's bars. They are vegan and both taste more like a candy bar than a protein bar.
