Cliff Bleszinksi and the Future of PC Games

Are Console Games the New Future of Gaming?

Cliff Bleszinski, the lead designer at Epic Games, better known as CliffyB, has recently made some comments critiquing PC gaming. Is Cliff Bleszinski right or wrong in his predictions? Is PC gaming becoming a thing of the past? Are the new console games like PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 going to be the new future in gaming? I think with the console games becoming so advanced the PC gaming is going to have to step it up a notch. Here is my take on the controversy.

PC games were the first to have the on-line multi-player games, but now the console games are competing with the PC by having even better multi-player games then the PC has. XBox has XBox Live, and PlayStation 3 offers free on-line multi-player gaming. With XBox and PlayStation you can use a microphone or headset and chat live with the people you are playing the games with. I think that while the PC games started the on-line multi-player the console games have taken it to a whole new level.

The games themselves is another reason that console gaming is becoming more popular. More games are coming out specifically for the XBox and PlayStation 3. Gods of War 3 and Resistance are just a couple of the games that are released exclusively on game consoles. Cliff Bleszinski originally was mainly designing games for the PC, but one of his most recent popular games is Gears of War is aimed at XBox.

Another reason that gaming is heading towards the console gaming is the graphics. The console games usually beat the PC on how the graphic look and the speed of games. Plus with everyone having large wide screen TV's these days, it makes a lot more sense to play a game on a big TV screen rather then a small computer monitor. When my husband and I play multi payer games the large screen makes the split screen multi-player mode look a lot better. I know graphic on the games for the XBox and PlayStation 3 are incredible, and they just keep getting better.

The main reason I believe the console games will easily outdo the PC games is because it is a product made exclusively for gaming. PC's are made to do lots of different things, gaming just happens to be one of them. Console games were specifically made for gaming. While the new consoles can now do a lot more then just games, the were originally designed for games. The consoles main focus will always be gaming. While the PC's focus will always be spread out among several different things.

I don't think PC gaming is going to go away or disappear. I do think all the popular games will be made for the console games, and will start being made less for the PC. With all the new developments I think that more consumers will be investing in console games. So while PC gaming will remain around I think console gaming is definitely the wave of the future.

Great article Abbitha, but there are a couple more reasons why PC Games are losing to Consoles. And it's mostly a cyclical thing.
Every 5-6yrs a new console comes out. Towards the end of that period PC games have been upgraded and enhanced to the point where it is better than console games. Because the consoles hardware has now aged to the point where it's not as great, Where computers have the ability to evolve with technolgy and move on. PC Gaming is truely a hobbiest crowd for those truely interested in tinkering with their computers. Those that has bought their computers for other reasons and decided to do gaming on them, will find themselves lacking the knowledge they need to upgrade their computer to play the newer games that come out. So there is definately a steep learning curve in computer gaming.
Secondly Wii also has the ability to get online and offers it as a free service. If your going to talk about consoles, it's best to include all 3. Wii has the biggest ma
