Climate Change

Who's Changing What

Michael Hardin
Are the United States and some other countries around the world out of touch? Are we being to critical of developing nations? Do we have the right to tell developing nations what they can and cannot do with their natural resources now that we have destroyed most of ours?

There are many examples of natural destruction around the globe. Each time there is a developing nation from our birth to present they use up all natural resources around them.

Let us look at the Middle East lots of deserts very hot climate and few trees. Historically this was not so, many of the lands there used to be paradises.

Wars and urbanization caused many of the resources to disappear through time. Cutting trees for building and other uses again and again in the name of progress caused much of the damage that we see today.

Using this as the road map of the dangers of overtaxing our natural resources one would think a lesson should have been learned. Here we are thousands of years later still doing the same things tapping our natural resources.

The disappearing trees of course are making it hotter, and making oxygen a scarce item for any nation that destroys them all. This is necessary for urbanization in any developing nation. The question is do we have the right to stop it because we have used all of our natural resources to the danger level.

Should China have the right to have factories spewing sediment into the air the way Russia and the United States have done for decades? Should Brazil and the other nations in South America have the right to cut down every tree the way we have for centuries? They do this in the name of progress the way we did here in the U.S.

What right do we have to tell anyone else they can or cannot be as industrialized as we are? These are good questions and should be taken into consideration when telling developing nations to be more resourceful and care the way other industrialized nations have.

Hopefully we will all learn from this folly, learn that the air we breathe is precious and the trees provide coolant and oxygen for all people on planet Earth.

May God have mercy on us all there has to be a happy medium?
