Kosciuzko, named after a Polish Hero, Tadeusz Kosciuszko, is the largest national park in NSW,which stands for New South Wales. The highest town in Austrailia, Cabramurra, also lies within the park. Kosciuzko, is also the name of the highest mountain in Australia, with a height of 2228 metres AHD, located within the Snowy Mountains, mountain range.

The water from the Snow Mountains runs down to the rivers of Snowy, Murrumbidgee, and Murray. There is an ongoing project to dam the Snowy River, using the water for irrigation and hydroelectricity. This project started in 1949, with one hundred thousand men being employed to work on it. About two thirds of these men came from different countries. It was at this time that Australians learned to grow upon and appreciate the different cultures settling there.

The mountain areas in Kosciuzko are best known in the winter time for being the best place in the world to come and ski. The ski resorts located within the park are Thredbo, Selwyn Snowfields, Perisher Blue, and Charlotte Pass. You can also get some really good cross country skiing in on the Main Range and in the Jugungal Wilderness Area. The excellent cross country skiing around the mountain range is made possible by the glaciers that existed during the ice ages, forming widely shaped valleys.

All around the inside of the park are building called alpine huts. These alpine huts are historic and left there by cattle grazers, miners, and people using them for summer homes. Some of these huts are operated by the Alpine Club, who prepare meals and give drinks to people using the mounts for skiing, mountain climbing, and hiking. Food is not always easy to get to the huts, so the choice of food is sometimes limited. Simple sleeping beds are also available there. There are however, some huts in more remote places, that are not managed by anyone. People are still invited to use these huts, when they want to or need to.

The summer time is also a good time to enjoy the largest national park in nsw. Not only is the area very picturesque with flowers surrounding the alpines, but you won't want to miss the opportunity to bushwalk up the slope to the highest point in Australia. Take plenty of water and film for your camera.

There are also tour guides to help you make the best of your stay. Your guide will be able to give you all the information of the area and the best thing to see and do in Kosciuzko national park.

Some of the things you may want to be sure to take with you are plenty of water, plenty of film, comfortable shoes and clothing. You will also need to come with an attitude for adventure and willingness to obey the rules of the park. For your stay there are hotels, inns, and bed and breakfasts to comfort you after an adventurous day in the park. Enjoy your stay.
