Clinique Clarifying Lotion Ingredients List

Tina Samuels
Clinique has four clarifying lotions that are designated by numbers, such as Clarifying Lotion 1. The ingredients vary slightly depending on which of the four clarifying lotions you have, according to Miriam Wayne of Clinique. Always check the label to see if there are additives to which you may be sensitive to or allergic to. There are some ingredients that are used in all four lotions such as witch hazel, water and denatured alcohol.

Clarifying Lotion 1

Clinique Clarifying Lotion 1 has its ingredients listed as water, denatured alcohol, witch hazel, glycerin, butylene glycol, sodium hyaluronate, acetyl glucosamine, trehalose, disodium EDTA, disodium phosphate, potassium sorbate, phenoxyethanol, yellow 5 and blue 1.

Glycerin is a humectant that aids in increasing the skin's surface layer hydration. It prevents drying and skin scaling or peeling. Witch hazel, according to the Cosmetic Cop online database, can be an antioxidant fighting free radical skin damage and be an anti-irritation agent that reduces inflammation.

Clarifying Lotion 2

Ingredients for Clarifying Lotion 2 are water, denatured alcohol, witch hazel, glycerin, sodium bicarbonate, menthol, violet 2, red 33 and red 6.

Menthol has a cooling effect and can give a bit of fragrance. It is a derivative of peppermint but in some individuals it can have an irritating effect on the skin. Colorings such as violet 2 and red 6 help formulas achieve a certain look, one that research and development has in mind for their marketing.

Clarifying Lotion 3

The list of ingredients for Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3 are water, denatured alcohol, witch hazel, salicylic acid, disodium EDTA, butylene glycol, benzalkonium chloride, D&C red No. 6, D&C orange No. 4 and D&C violet No. 2.

Disodium EDTA helps foaming and cleansing of a product when in hard water or water with metal ions. It betters the cleaning ability of the product, according to CosmeticsInfo.org. Benzalkonium chloride is a foam booster and a preservative that helps inhibit the growth of microbes in a product, keeping the shelf life stable.

Clarifying Lotion 4

Clarifying Lotion 4 has ingredients that include water, denatured alcohol, witch hazel, salicylic acid, disodium EDTA, butylene glycol, benzalkonium chloride and D&C green No.5.

Butylene glycol is a solvent used to dissolve other additives into each other to form a solution. It will dissolve many flavorings and essential oils, according to CosmeticsInfo.org. Salicylic acid, according to Cosmetics Cop online, is a beta-hydroxy acid that is used for an anti-acne medication to reduce the amount of blemishes and the frequency. It can also be an anti-inflammatory agent.
