Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief: Product Review
Does This Product Really Provide Long Lasting Moisture and Skin Hydration?
Sounds like a great product, right? I thought so too, which is why I snatched up a free sample 1 oz jar to try during the recent free makeup giveaway. If you missed out on the giveaway, click here to read my article about it.
This is my review of Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief.
After brushing my teeth and cleansing my face, I was ready to try my new treasure. When I opened the box and saw the clear jar and silver colored twist off lid, I wasn't too excited. I'm not a fan of twist off lids jars because I'm a bit clumsy and lazy. I prefer a pump bottle with quick easy access.
Next comes one of my most important tests for any new face product - the "scratch and sniff". I don't like anything with a scent that is going to be under my nose very long. This product passed the sniff test with flying colors. There was just a slight hint of odor but it wasn't unpleasant at all. It smelled clean and reminded me a bit of the ocean.
The fluffy appearance of the gel and soothing peachy color were appealing as well. Although I prefer not to dip my fingers into anything and would rather use a pump bottle, this gel just begged to be touched. I admit the gel did appear to be a bit watery at first glance, but as it turns, it had a nice consistency that was very soothing on both my fingers and face.
I dipped my fingers in, scooped out a tiny bit of gel, and applied it to my face. Ahhhhh ... instant heaven! The cooling sensation was so refreshing and rejuvenating that I fell in love with it instantly. It's not cooling in the way a medicated or mentholated product would be ... it's more like spraying your face with a spritz of cool water after coming inside on a hot summer day. I eagerly dipped my fingertips back in for more and was pleased to discover that a little bit of gel goes a long way. The gel is very light and does not feel heavy on my face.
The gel soaks in quickly and doesn't leave behind a sticky feeling, at least not on my face. It was weird because my fingers felt a bit sticky but the skin on my face didn't. My face did feel like it had a protective "seal" on it though, so I can see where this product would seal in moisture for those who don't have overly dry skin.
To give the moisturizing properties a fair test, I didn't use any other creams or moisturizers that night. When I woke up the next morning, my skin was quite thirsty and dry, but it was soft as a baby's bottom.
As a side note, the manufacturer claims this product "smooths, soothes, and plumps up fine dry lines" ... I haven't noticed a difference in my fine lines though and have been using this stuff for over a month. Your mileage may vary.
Also note that it contains no SPF so be sure to use some sunscreen.
BOTTOM LINE
I give Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief a 3 out of 5 star rating.
It's great for a quick skin pick-me-up because it is very cool, refreshing and rejuvenating. It also does a wonderful job of making the skin on your face soft. If your skin is oily or young enough to have natural moisture, then I think you will be very pleased with this product. On the other hand, if you have dry skin and are looking for something to provide moisture this product probably isn't the right one for you. Although I do use it underneath another moisturizer because I love the way it makes my skin feel soft.
Will I buy more of the Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief? No - I can't afford it at $35.00 for a 1.7 oz jar and my skin needs something that will help with dryness. But I will most certainly enjoy every little drop of the free sample jar I have!

Post a CommentExcellent review Nikki...very well written. I would be concerned with the $35 price as well...ouch.
Terrific review :) Sheri
Wonderful review. I'd really like to see photos with your reviews, so when you like a product I have a visual to help maneuver me through the store aisle :-)
Helpful, let's me know it won't work on my old, thirsty dry skin.
Thanks for the great review!
Clinique does make excellent products. Nice review. :-)
Awesome review!
Great article. I'll pass this info along.
Great review...but I can't use Clinique products.
I like the name of this product, but will probably pass on it based on your review. I like to have a moisturizer contain SPF so I don't need to buy 2 products. Thanks for the insightful review!
