Clint Walker is getting his first Six Gun Salute on Encore Westerns July 24th. Watch Encore Westerns Sunday to see five of his westerns and to listen to exclusive interviews. Norman Eugene Walker (Clint) was born May 30th, 1927 in Illinois. His life is interesting, and he is a man of principles.
The movies to be aired are:
Yellowstone Kelly '" Co-stars Ed Byrnes
Fort Dobbs '" 1958 '" Co-stars Brian Keith, Virginia Mayo.
Gold of the Seven Saints '" Co-stars Roger Moore, Leticia Roman, Chill Wills.
Pancho Villa '" Co-stars Telly Savalas
More Dead than Alive '" Co-stars Vincent Price, Ann Francis
Clint Walker was and still is a stunningly handsome man. It was said that he sported 48-32-36 measurements and stood 6'6". Walker appealed to women and may have been the most fawned over western star of that era.
Probably best known for his role as "Cheyenne", Walker was a handsome, quiet and honorable man. In most of his interviews, he is quick to praise his co-stars and praise them for his performances being good. Walker still receives film offers but has not found one that fits his standards. He said, "There is a lot of stuff now that is in bad taste, and I don't see the necessity for it all. We didn't have to do it in our time, and they don't have to do it now."
The "Cheyenne" series was tremendously popular and helped launch Walker to western fame. It is still in reruns and can be seen on the Encore Western Channel along with Gunsmoke and the Lawman. If viewers are not familiar with Clint Walker, and want to learn more, try his website or watch some of his fascinating interviews.
In the series, Walker said he could "ride" a horse, but he was not a good rider. The producer told him that after a year of "Cheyenne", he would be a great rider or a dead one. Once again, he raved about the 16 hand Quarter horse named Brandy. He said that the horse brought him through everything in style and carried him with ease in flat out running scenes.
Although Clint Walker made several films that were not westerns, western lovers remember him fondly. I can not think of a more handsome, mannerly or more disciplined western star than Clint Walker. Thanks Encore Western Channel for making a six-gun salute to him!
