Most upstanding citizens know that a life of crime simply doesn't pay off. And taking a look at the police blotter of recent crimes in the Clinton Hill, Brooklyn area (88th Precinct) just confirms that fact. Check out these scary but stupid crimes from the last week.

3-2-1 Contact

The corner of Carlton and Lafayette avenues has seen its share of trouble. On Aug. 30, three unarmed robbers victimized two unsuspecting men. They had no weapons and made no threats but got away with cell phones and wallets.

Petty Phone Theft

On Aug. 31, three hooligans surrounded a 37-year-old in the Lafayette Avenue station. Although the victim noticed his followers for a couple of blocks at 10:35 p.m., he continued on his way. They punched him and took his iPhone.

Ten Dollar Tiff

Two self-proclaimed tough guys surrounded a 40-year-old man in Washington Park between Willoughby Avenue and Dekalb Avenue, the night of Sept. 2. They beat the victim, giving him two black eyes and got away with just $10 and his cell phone.

33 Cent Thugs

At 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, three thugs held up a 32-year-old man at knife point. The crime took place near the corner of Myrtle Avenue and Navy Street. And their booty? They got away with $1, an iPod, and a cell phone. Wonder how they'll split that dollar.

Sure, thieves can make a pretty penny selling your cell phone and iPod, but today very few people carry a lot of cash. So does the crime really pay off? Word to the wise, though - stay aware of your surroundings and keep your belongings concealed.
