I must admit that I know little about the actual technology involved or the process by which it would ever be achieved. However, I'm absolutely 100 percent certain that someone knows...(and slowly, but surely, they drew their plans against us). No, seriously, it is a fact that this technology will surely be upon us within the next century. But what are we to do with this amazing ability when we acquire it? Hopefully nothing (from my point of view). It just seems to me that we are playing with something that we absolutely don't have the right to. I don't know why we haven't got the right - I just feel it. I know that there are many proponents of cloning in the world that loudly proclaim that we can save lives! Cloning people (if that's what they are) and then harvesting their organs would save thousands, millions even!
Well, I say so what? There are millions of dying people in the Third World countries and elsewhere. Feed them first. Use the millions of dollars you want to use on this technology for teaching people how to raise crops in harsh climates. Provide them with the tools they need to achieve it. Millions of dollars every year is spent on researching things like cloning people, that could be spent elsewhere. And spent much more wisely, in my opinion.
And besides, what about the ethics of cloning a person and then killing them in the process of harvesting their body parts? We proclaim to want to save lives...
Oh, this is a hard one, isn't it? I almost feel that, somewhere within the myriad of arguments, proclamations and claims to know what's right, that we're missing something. Something very real, true and important. It's hard to explain, but it is the thing that nags at the back of my mind when I hear about this. It is the thing that makes me unwillingly to proffer opinion or argue about its pros and cons. It is the thing that tells me we are making a horrible mistake.
I have to admit that I am glad that I wont be around if and when this thing occurs. It scares me, and a lot of other people too. That tells me something.
It tells me that if enough people have got the nagging feeling that cloning people is somehow not quite right, then it most definitely isn't...
