Cloris Leachman Danced Better Than Michael Bolton on 'Dancing with the Stars'

Bruno Tonioli Shouldn't Apologize to Michael Bolton. Bolton Should Apologize for Bad Attitude

Michael Bolton, pop singer once framed by a wild hair mane, danced badly on ABC's Dancing With The Stars, and justly received a passionate rebuke from judge Bruno Tonioli. Bolton, famous for raspy voiced covers of When A Man Loves A Woman and Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay, is now bereft of his trademark locks, and maybe all humor and humility. He signed onto a dance show for amateurs, fully admitting he was no dancer. When master dancer Bruno Tonioli spoke his mind on Bolton's lackluster jive - which got Bolton booted - he demanded Tonioli apologize.

Tonioli apologize for doing his job? Not only is the logic baffling, but strikes at the heart of showmanship. Bolton has performed live for decades. He knows how to put on a show. Should judges merely nod timidly, and whisper, "Not bad! Nice try!" Would Bolton prefer a bland love fest where none rail against bad moves? Maybe judges should use thumbs up or down - so no feelings get hurt.

Chelsie Hightower, the DWTS pro who trained Bolton had her hands full. During practice, Chelsie made it clear how difficult it was going to be to get him into shape. "Most people think because you sing, you dance. When Michael sings he kind of hunches over the microphone. He's very stiff and clunky. And that's my biggest worry right now."

Judge Len Goodman may have been infinitely more scathing in his critique of Bolton's jive jive, "I don't think the world's quite ready for your interpretation for the jive... it had everything in there. It probably needed a pooper scooper as well to finish it off." Why isn't Goodman also on Bolton's 'I demand an apology since I'm so sensitive!' list? Goodman called Bolton's dance crap. He equated it with dog excrement.

Michael Bolton should apologize for a bad attitude. Bad dancing is an expected part of DWTS. It's part of the fun. Bolton must apologize for being humorless, unprofessional and plainly immature. When Cloris Leachman was on DWTS, I honestly think she danced better than Michael Bolton, and surely had more fun.

Was Tonioli over the line for saying it was the worst jive on DWTS ever? Was Len Goodman worse for calling Bolton's jive 'dog doo?' Perhaps. In the end, when an 83 year old gal dances better than a physically fit 57 year old, and jokes about it, then it's time for Michael Bolton to not only work on dance, but on his fragile ego. Clearly, Bolton can learn a lot from Leachman - about dancing, and about his woeful lack of a sense of humor.

Bolton is a terrific vocalist but he was the worst dancer ever. I told my wife, "Bolton was as stiff as a Zombie fresh from the grave." He cannot smile even when he is singing. Sorry, but Bruno was telling it as he saw it and he was simply doing his job. He told the truth. God bless. ℳ.ℋ.

I agree that Len Goodman blasted Michael Bolton worse than Bruno. I think they should all get together and apologize to each other.

Charlie - the simple fact is Len Goodman trashed Michael Bolton far worse - as I wrote. Equating a performance with 'dog doo' is far worse than saying it's the 'worst' jive dance. The reason Bolton 'called out' Bruno is that: #1 Bruno is a phenomenal dancer, & Bolton is probably really insecure about that. #2 Bruno is the 'Simon Cowell' of the show - the acerbic, sarcastic funny one - while Len is a more centered 'Randy' of DWTS. As I said, Bolton is a consummate performer. He knows how to put on a good show. If Len Goodman had not fired off his scathing joke - which again I must emphasize is FAR worse than merely critiquing something as being 'worst' - if Bruno never got 'fiery' - nobody would watch that show. Half the fun is seeing bad dancing & hearing 'fun criticism'. Michael Bolton needs to lighten up. He owes everyone an apology.

Bolton said his Mom was in the audience. He said he was upset for her. I think she was upset - she was upset that her son acted like an overly sensitive, spoiled brat. In fact go watch the clip again on YouTube - I did about 4 times. Watch as Bruno underscores what I'm saying to Len. He points out how withering a comment like Len said about "pooper scooper" is - and Len realizes just how badly he trashed Bolton. But Bruno got the heat from Bolton because Bruno is the Simon that everyone loves to dump on.

Wow, something we disagree on??? Say it isn't so!!! Bolton did cop an attitude. I agree with you there but I still believe that Bruno went over the line in his harsh critique. I don't hold the score against him. I think he was right on that. I just don't think he had to stoop so low in what he said. But then Len has done that more than a time or two himself. I think you can criticize harshly without it becoming kind of personal. Bolton wasn't the worst dancer ever. Are people forgetting the rapper in season one or two??? He didn't even try.

I find it refreshing when judges on these shows call it like they see it. Well written review!
