Closet Space

i fell into this darkness
deeper blacker than the ocean
i could feel your voice beside me
twenty thousand miles away
you whispered screaming
to come closer
but your hands were tied and i was scared
to walk across the darkness
by myself

and your heart echoed my words so i could
hear you in the hours spinning
cold beside the stars

and as the heat began to warm the sky
the sun crept out across the world
the other side, the earth was winding down

your skin was closer than my own and in the dark
i gave us over
to the permanence of borrowed closet space.
