Product specifications
The Bummis Super Whisper Wrap is made of polyurethane laminate (PUL), a soft, breathable waterproof fabric. It features fully-enclosed elastic at the legs and waist. This diaper cover fastens with crossover Velcro tabs and for maximum adjustability. The Super Whisper Wrap also features "laundry-safe tabs" to secure the Velcro while in the wash. The Bummis Super Whisper Wrap retails for around $9.50.
The Proraps Classic is also made of PUL, but it is laminated on the inside, creating a shiny and less breathable surface. It has fully-enclosed elastic at legs and waist, and features a "double-barrier gusset" for added leak protection and comfort. The Proraps Classic retails for around $6.50.
Care
Both the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap and the Proraps Classic are washing-machine safe and can be laundered at any temperature. The Velcro tabs on the Proraps Classic have a tendency to snag on other items in the wash unless the cover is completely fastened. The laundry-safe tabs on the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap are more convenient - simply fasten the hook tabs to the small loop patches inside the cover, and toss into the wash.
The Bummis Super Whisper Wrap boasts that it is safe to tumble dry at any temperature, and I have found this to be true. I wash and dry my diapers on high heat, and have had no problems with the Super Whisper Wrap in the laundry. Because of the laminated inside of the Proraps Classic, however, I have been hesitant to toss it into the dryer for fear that the laminate may melt. But the Proraps Classic covers air-dry quickly, and drying in the sun is even faster.
Fit and comfort
The Bummis Super Whisper Wrap is cut more generously than the Proraps Classic, and will be better suited for chunkier babies. The crossover tabs on the Super Whisper Wrap make this cover more adjustable than the Proraps Classic, extending the size range of the cover. The double gussets of the Proraps Classic create a more snug fit at the legs than the Super Whisper Wrap, which will be more suitable for baby of slim or average build. The enclosed elastic of both diaper covers prevent chafing, redness, and pinching of the skin, and my daughter is able to move freely and comfortably in both covers.
Leak protection
Since using the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, I have had only one leak issue due to the large size of the leg openings. Adjusting the cover more tightly at the waist eliminated this problem. I have had two leaks with the Proraps Classic - the first time, my daughter had over-soaked her diaper, and the wetness had nowhere to go but out. This would have been prevented by using a more absorbent diaper. The second time, the elastic at the leg opening had rolled inward, allowing the outer fabric to wick wetness to the outside of the diaper cover. This leak would have been prevented by ensuring that the elastic was rolled out properly. I have used both the Proraps Classic and the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap overnight, with no leak problems.
Bottom line
Both the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap and the Proraps Classic are excellent diaper covers, and I will gladly purchase more in larger sizes for the future. For slimmer babies, I would recommend the Proraps Classic, but for heftier babies, the Super Whisper Wrap would be a better choice. Both diaper covers are of terrific quality, and I would recommend them to anyone needing a high-quality, inexpensive diaper cover.

Post a CommentYou can use your covers 2-3 times before you launder them. Just wipe the inside dry and put a fresh diaper inside the cover.you can use cloth diaper cover and one size diaper. thanks...
Thank you for posting this! I have been trying to decide between these two items. Since I have a skinny 5 month old, I guess I"ll go with the proraps! Much appreciated advice.
Great comparison article
This was a great comparison and told me all I needed to know to make a decision! I've got some bummis and some proraps for the baby due in September, but haven't tried them yet... guess we'll see how it works otu!
Are you using cloth or disposables, Jacques? Most stores don't carry cloth diapering products, other than the Gerber prefolds that people use as burp cloths and perhaps the Gerber vinyl pants. I've used those, and they're terrible. You're better off finding cloth diaper products at a natural foods store or online... I guess cloth diapering isn't popular enough or lucrative enough for the mainstream stores to be carrying the products yet.
Highly informative article. Interestingly enough, I don't recall seeing these anywhere that we've been buying diapers for our nearly 3-year old little one.
Terrific review.
I wanted to cloth diaper sooooo badly but J didn't want to make that initial investment in them. I really didn't get it, being as it'd be cheaper in the long run but... *lol*
Great review! I'm going to be shopping for these soon, it seems!
I love my proraps! Great article!!!
