Cloud B Sleep Sheep Toy Review

I received the Cloud b Sleep Sheep as a gift. It retails for approximately $25. The Cloud b Sleep Sheep is a stuffed sheep that plays four different soothing sounds to help lull your baby to sleep.

FEATURES

The Cloud b Sleep Sheep has a hook-and-loop tab to allow you to hang it from your baby's crib. (Please note: For safety, make sure that the sheep is not in a position to block your baby's face if he or she would roll into it.)

A series of buttons on the back of the Cloud b Sleep Sheep can be pressed so that four different sounds are played.

The first set of sounds is a simple "whoosh whoosh" that is supposed to mimic the same way that a mother's heartbeat sounds to a baby inside the womb. This is a very pleasant, rhythmic sound.

The second set of sounds is a gentle rain shower. Although pleasant to listen to, it wasn't very rhythmic. It did sound genuinely like a light rain, however.

The third set of sounds is ocean waves. The realistic ocean surf sound could easily transport you to the beach. I found it quite calming.

The last set of sounds are whale songs. These sounds, though interesting, did not seem to be very relaxing or conducive to sleep.

There is a volume button the Cloud b Sleep Sheep so you can control how loud the sounds get. The sounds "time out" and automatically turn off after 23 minutes, presumably to save battery life. Two "AA" batteries are required.

The Cloud b Sleep Sheep itself is a very cute stuffed animal. It looks like a woolly sheep with its eyes closed as if it's snoozing. In addition, the batteries and sound box can be removed from the Cloud b Sleep Sheep so it can also serve as a simple stuffed toy.

PERFORMANCE

In the first month of my baby's life-when experts recommend that parents recreate the womb environment as much as possible-I used the "mother's heartbeat" sound on the Cloud b Sleep Sheep. Though my baby was not a very good sleeper on those early days, the "whoosh whoosh" sound seemed to calm her a bit. I did wish that it would last for longer than 23 minutes. It seemed that my baby would just stop fussing and start drifting off to sleep when the sound would stop-and then she'd wake up again.

I later tried some of the other sounds. For a brief period of time she was frightened by the whale song, but that may have been due to her developmental stage. She seemed interested in both the rain and the ocean surf sounds, but they did not lull her to sleep.

As she grew older, she enjoyed playing with the Cloud b Sleep Sheep's tail, feet and the ribbon around its neck whenever she was in her crib. She was no longer interested in the sounds, however.

Overall, I found the usefulness of the Cloud b Sleep Sheep as a sound machine to be short lived. The sounds really only soothed my baby for the first few months of her life. However, during that time it was very, very valuable. My baby did enjoy playing with it as a stuffed animal, so that extended its use.

MY RECOMMENDATION

Mommies with babies who need help sleeping may find the Cloud b Sleep Sheep very useful, especially during their infant's early months. Some kids do like a little white noise when they sleep, and this toy would also be great in those circumstances. In fact, its extended use as a simple stuffed animal generally makes this a worthwhile purchase.
