One of the most scenic state parks in Georgia, Cloudland Canyon State Park is located on the western edge of Lookout Mountain. Amazing rock formations and geological wonders await you and your family at this amazing Georgia state park. A deep gorge cuts through the parks interior and offers visitors magnificent views of the canyon ranging in elevations from 800 feet to nearly 2,000 feet above sea level.
As you enter the park, spectacular views of the canyon can be found near the picnic area. Those who wish to view the canyon up close and personal can follow the rim trail or hike deep into the canyon on a trail that contains over 600 steps to the bottom. Two beautiful waterfalls cascade into sandstone pools at the bottom of this fantastic trail.
Hiking is the best way to see the canyon and the surrounding 3,485 acres of wilderness. Five trails of varying lengths meander through and around the canyon and park. The five mile West Rim Loop is a great way to see the canyon from above, while the two mile Waterfalls Trail allows visitors to plunge into the canyon below.
Cloudland Canyon State Park isn't just about the canyon. Amenities abound here and include a 72 site full-facility campground that features water, electric, picnic tables and a fire ring at each site. Bring your tent to the more secluded walk-in sites or really rough it at one of the parks 11 backcountry campsites.
Even if you don't have an RV or tent, you can still enjoy all that Cloudland Canyon State Park has to offer. 16 cottages are available to guests for a fee ranging from $125-$145. Bring your dog(s) to the two pet-friendly cabins for an additional $40 per dog and enjoy the canyon with your best friend.
There is plenty to do for everyone at Cloudland Canyon State Park. A disc golf course winds its way around the outer edge of the campground and costs just $2 per person. Discs can be rented or provide your own. A tennis court is also available; bring your own balls and rackets.
