Consumers should be aware that another recall has been announced involving sprouts. Most people are aware there have been several food recalls since the beginning of the year.

Sprouters Northwest announced a recall after learning of several salmonella cases that may have been connected to sprouts. This is considered a voluntary recall that was issued because of the concern there may be a connection to sprouts, although no connection has been found to this company.

The company is Sprouters Northwest, Inc. of Kent, Washington. The recalled sprouts are clover sprouts and the clover sprout mix products. The United States Food and Drug Administration and with Sprouters Northwest are trying to determine the Salmonella situation to determine what caused the contamination.

Further information will be released about these recalled sprouts as it becomes available. According to the Centers for Disease Control, Salmonella symptoms can include a fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea. Anyone believing they have eaten a food that is contaminated with Salmonella should seek medical attention. Read more about Salmonella on the CDC site.

Many consumers are turning to local growers to find fresh produce they feel will be a better choice. There is also an increase in the number of people growing some of their own food, including sprouting their own seeds at home. Others are just avoiding anything on recent recalls lists.
