Cloverfield

I have been waiting for this movie to come out ever since I saw the teaser trailer before the showing of The Transformers this past summer. I thought to myself, man I cannot wait until January of '08, I am going to see this movie. Well I've seen the movie. Don't know what to think of the movie. I should have read up on it more, because silly me thought that the only home video scene was going to be at the party. I was wrong totally wrong, the whole movie was recorded by one of the actors in the movie named Hud.

There were no well known actors in the film, and I'm all for that because everyone needs their time to shine. Actually that was one of the few good things about this movie - the acting. The Blair Witch meets Loch Ness would be an appropriate way to describe this movie I suppose. I'm pretty sure the monster in this film was some sort of sea creature; may have been an alien. This creature was never given a name, so I guess it would be "Clovey" or the "Clover Monster".

While running for his life Hud manages to hold on to this camera and continues to record the buildings collapsing and the monster attacking the city; killing anyone in its path. The thing that really got me was the fact that he fell a few times and never once let go of that darn camera. This was unrealistic folks, because if you are running for your life I would think that holding on to a camera is the last thing you are worried about.

There were some really cool scenes in the movie that made me jump, so that was very exciting. But in my opinion it was a truly hyped up movie that in no way delivered half of what I expected. Now I'm not saying that my opinion of the movie is law, because you may go to the theater to see it an have a totally different opinion. I can't say in no way that I loved it because that would be a lie, nor will I say that I hated it because that would be a tad bit harsh. I'm glad that I went to the matinee and saved a few bucks though. Cloverfield???

If budget allowed I would probably watch most every movie that comes out. I saw a preview of this one and it did not interest me.

I remember seeing hype about this movie on the internet last summer, and was intrigued because of the JJ Abrahms connection (to TV's Lost). I remember thinking, too - wow, that guy's hand must be super glued to that camera! But I thoroughly enjoyed the movie nonetheless, and sometimes it is better when there is less hype because then the movie sort of sneaks up on you. It was a fun movie, but you did have to suspend your belief for 90 or so minutes - afterward I kept looking up at the sky and imagining something that huge looming over us... Nice review!
