Naturally, the first thing you could do is to hire a maid, house cleaner or personal assistant to do this for you. But that can be expensive and we want to go this by ourselves. So, the first thing you will want to do is to make a decision that you are going to get rid of some things you may not really feel like doing, but are necessary in order to get things straightened up.
Now that you are prepared mentally, it is now time to begin putting all the clutter into piles. These various piles can be as simple as having a "toss" pile, save, currently used and storage piles. You get the idea.
Go through your items and toss out what you need to get rid of first. It makes the rest of the process much easier. If you are not using it now, or do not have a need for it later...toss it. Go slow if you need to, but just do it. Things you no longer need you can give away to places such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army. The rest can go to the trash.
Now that you have gotten past the most difficult step, it is time now to organize what is left. Ultimately, this should be the easiest step of all. Items you use on an everyday basis you can keep in the areas they belong. Items you want to hang onto, but do not use very often, can go in boxes to be stored in the basement or garage.
You see, clutter removal does not have to be a difficult process if you set your mind to it. Now that you have yourself organized you can take the steps you need to keep it that way. But that is a whole new story.
