CM Punk: The New Leader of Nexus

Spy Radio
Last night on Raw, David Otunga lead Nexus to the ring. Upon entering he told John Cena that Nexus was under new management and offered Cena a truce. Cena refused which lead to a beat down from Nexus. When Nexus was walking up the entrance ramp, CM Punk came out. Punk headed down to the ring and delivered a GTS to Cena. Punk grabbed a chair but instead of hitting Cena with it he sat down. While sitting Punk picked up the Nexus armband and placed it over his left arm. He stood up and raised his right hand to the other members of Nexus. Nexus raised their right hands back at Punk as Raw went off air. Now that Punk is the new leader of Nexus, what does it mean for former leader Wade Barrett?

Below are some questions that have been floating around online...

Is Barrett still apart of Nexus?

I think Barrett could still be apart of Nexus. When Barrett was leading Nexus he always talked about a higher purpose. CM Punk could be that higher purpose he was talking about. I hope WWE does not move in this direction. Barrett would look like a puppet, who was doing everything Punk asked rather than a great leader.

Will Barrett get drafted to Smackdown?

It would make sense for Barrett to move to Smackdown. When you think of the World Heavyweight Championship there are not many heels in the picture. The only true heel that is contending for the Championship is Kane. Smackdown also has Alberto Del Rio and former Champion Jack Swagger. In my opinion Del Rio is not ready to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Swagger has moved down to the mid-card level to compete for the Intercontinental Championship and it could be a while before he receives a shot for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Will Barrett return to help Cena battle Nexus?

This scenario seems unlikely, but it is possible that Barrett could return to help Cena battle Nexus. If Barrett returns to find out he has been replaced, he may seek revenge on the members of Nexus. Barrett would have to turn face in this situation, but it is possible with Cena on his side.

Will Barrett return and win the Royal Rumble?

This scenario also seems unlikely. It is possible that Barrett could win the Royal Rumble but who would he challenge? Cena has moved on to feud with CM Punk. He could challenge whomever the World Heavyweight Champion is on Smackdown.

Will Barrett get released?

I have no idea how this question got started but there is no way Barrett would get released. He was the winner of NXT Season 1. In Season 1 of NXT the WWE Pros selected the winner, unlike Season 2 where the WWE Universe had a say. That makes me think the WWE thinks highly of Barrett. He was also given the opportunity to lead Nexus, which he excelled at. If Barrett did get released I would be shocked, since I think all the other members of Nexus should get released before he does.

Could CM Punk be the higher power that Nexus was talking about? I still think Wade Barrett is in the group, he is showing up in full Nexus gear at house shows.

wade barrett comes back to find out that cm punk is trying to convert the members of nexus to SES which will not happen. cena will help wade barrett even though cena doesnt want to he is. WADE BEGGS CENA TO HELP! THEY MAKE TRUTHS AND THERE GOES NEIGHBORHOOD! SO MAYBE A MATCH BETWEEN CENA AND PUNK WITH SPECIAL REF. WADE BARRETT BUT CM PUNK HAS NO IDEA THAT WADE AND CENA MADE TRUTHS WHEN HE RETURNS!

I hope the WWE does something to make the Nexus storyline different this time around, besides having a different person front the group.

I was not tired of Nexus. Maybe the WWE Universe was starting to grow tired of them, which is why they gave them a fresh new look with CM Punk as leader. The only thing is that it’s basically the same storyline, but instead of Barrett facing Cena it will be Punk.

Interesting insights. I felt like I saw the unveiling of CM Punk as the leader of Nexus coming throughout the show because I couldn't think of anything really big and hurtful that he could do to John Cena that hadn't already been done by Nexus. Truth be told, I think Punk has been looking for a new group to lead since his SES let him down and might be looking to convert the Nexus members into a brand new SES. I preferred Punk behind the announcer table -- he was good there. I'm just tired of the Nexus.
