CM Punk Returns to Raw

Did He Return to Soon?

Spy Radio

Rey Mysterio and John Cena captured the WWE Championship while Jim Ross, John Morrison, and CM Punk all made their returns to Raw. Did the WWE drop the ball by allowing Punk to return so soon?

Last nights episode of Monday Night Raw kicked off with a WWE Championship Match. The match featured Rey Mysterio and The Miz, both finalists from the previous weeks WWE Championship Tournament. Mysterio won the Tournament by defeating The Miz. Defeating The Miz allowed Myseterio to capture his first WWE Championship. As Mysterio celebrated his win, The Miz attacked him from behind.

Mr. Money In The Bank, Alberto Del Rio was ready to take advantage of the weakened Mysterio. Del Rio made his way to the announce table to cash in his Briefcase. Before he was able to cash in, Mysterio jumped over the top rope nailing Del Rio with a 'Cross Body'. This caused Del Rio to take his Briefcase and flee up the entrance ramp. Mysterio was able to fight off Del Rio but he still had a long battle ahead.

Mysterio still had a long battle ahead because HHH announced that Mysterio would be defending his WWE Championship against John Cena later that night. Besides booking the Main Event, HHH had a few more surprise up his sleeve.

The first was the return of Jim Ross to the Raw announce team. This upset current announcer Michael Cole. Cole let HHH know his feelings about Jim Ross while HHH let Cole know he had a match coming up next.

As Cole went backstage to prepare for his match R-Truth made his way to the ring. Truth was upset about the conspiracy theory taking place against him. He let HHH know that Lil Jimmy got him at Capitol Punishment while his fear of spiders and heights cost him the Money In The Bank Briefcase. HHH thought Truth was crazy and began to mock him. Truth did not appreciate being made fun of and left the ring. As Truth made his way up the entrance ramp HHH announced the return of John Morrison. Morrison met Truth at the top of the entrance ramp and got his revenge on Truth by beating him down. With all of HHH's announcements out of the way it was time for the second WWE Championship Match of the night.

The second WWE Championship Match featured WWE Champion Rey Mysterio defending his Championship against John Cena. A rested Mysterio was able to defeat The Miz earlier in the night to capture his first WWE Championship. After competing once Mysterio was no match for the well rested Cena. Cena delivered an 'Attitude Adjustment' to Mysterio. This allowed Cena to get the three count and the WWE Championship. After the match Cena showed good sportsmen ship by helping Mysterio to his feet. After helping Mysterio to his feet Cena began to celebrate.

Cena's celebration was cut short when "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour started playing throughout the arena. Cena looked around as CM Punk appeared on the entrance ramp with his WWE Championship. Punk made his way to the ring and stood face to face with Cena while both men held their Championships up in the air.

Punk made his presence felt on last nights episode of Raw but did he return to soon? Punk did not return to soon. The WWE dropped the ball by allowing the WWE Championship to change hands twice in one night. Rey Mysterio and The Miz should have faced each other in the Main Event. As Mysterio was about to win the match Punk should have appeared on the entrance ramp, announcing his return to the WWE. If Punk would have returned before a new Superstar was crowned Champion, he would be the sole Champion.

Punk is not the sole Champion meaning he returned to late. According to the WWE Championship History, both Mysterio and Cena were given credit for their Championship wins last night. That technically makes Cena the WWE Champion even though Punk never lost his Championship. Of course Cena and Punk will face off at SummerSlam to see who the true Champion is. Until that happens John Cena is the official WWE Champion.

When that music hit, I turned to my Mom like "Punk's back". As for your comment - true, but when Rhodes was going up the ladder I got all excited (& I figured he wouldn't win it from the get-go). I'd like to see him capture the IC Championship soon. I can see Ted turning face, so a Cody/Ted feud for the IC Championship would be fun for me to watch. :)
