Wonderful activities for all grades are in full swing this week for Harvest Week:
On Monday, October 25, Pre-K and Kindergartners will be visited by local beekeepers. Fifth grade students will make their own granola.
On Tuesday, October 26, 1st grade students will be sampling local cheeses from Stinky Bklyn. Down the road apiece, Red Hook Community Farm gets a visit from PS29 2nd grade students, a field trip in every sense of the word. Third grade students have a little piece of the farm come to them, when an organic vegetable farmer visits them. Fourth grade students will have their turn at making homemade granola.
On Wednesday, October 27, cluck-cluck come the chickens to Pre-K toddlers and an Angora bunny hops to the Kindergartners, where they learn about him and how to spin his fur. Second grade students say cheese, learning how to make mozzarella. And 3rd grade students learn about and munch on that fruit that goes so well with cheese, locally grown apples. Fourth and fifth graders make some more homemade granola.
On Thursday, October 28, kindergartners plant window boxes and second grade students have their turn on the Red Hook Community Farm. Fourth grade students turn up to learn about composting.
On Friday, October 29, the 2nd grade students that haven't yet made mozzarella cheese put their chef hats on, and the remaining fifth grade students that didn't mix up the granola they heard about from their peers will put together their own granola varieties.
