Right along the high street, about in the middle of the town, sits Buffalo Grill. At first you might overlook it as it seems a bit run down. Most times one of the light-up letters on the sign is defective. Sometimes the entire name is turned off. Regardless, do not let this detour you from the feast within. After all, since Buffalo Grill is a working man's cafe, you should not expect it to look like a posh palace.
Furnishings within the building are quite standard too. Little wooden tables line the walls with flimsy wood chairs too. Of course there are no table mats, no candles, and no table decorations. Why would there be? All they do is distract a man from his meal. Fortunately there are pictures and the like along the walls to give the place some character.
The wait staffs are everyday people too. They do not try to front otherwise. Undoubtedly though they are very friendly, which I find a bit odd since people in the United Kingdom do not tip. Ever. Poor waiters¡ anyway, the ordering service is quite easy. Without anything too fancy on the menu people waste no time in figuring out what to order and the kitchen takes nearly no time in getting it to your table. My meal only took seven minutes from order to eating!
Granted all I asked for was a hamburger (well-done) and chips (French fries). Penny, my girlfriend, received her sausage at the same time too. Now I am not one to throw a fit over toppings, but Buffalo Grill did not even try to skimp out. All of garnishes were overflowing, there was tons of ketchup (and even a squirty bottle on the table, which is rare in England), and what could only be two slices of cheese. That surely beats the 12 Great British Pound burger down the road that only gives a small piece of lettuce, no tomatoes or onions, and a drop of ketchup!
Taste wise my burger was greatly enjoyable. It was vastly superior to the frozen patties you get in McDonald¡¯s and Wendy¡¯s. There is no sense of taste to even hint that it might be a frozen patty. That said it is only very slightly worse than a Gordon Ramsey hamburger. Although, all things considered, Gordon Ramsey might do a bit too much to a hamburger for my tastes. Regardless, it was a top notch burger that costs less than a McDonald¡¯s dollar menu burger.
Buffalo Grill also saw fit to fill my belly with a gigantic portion of chips. My 10 inch plate was completely full from the burger and chips. The same was true for my girlfriend's sausage and chips. They served huge portions, and their taste was superb, too. Once more, it was cheaper than McDonald's again!
Lastly, our Coca-Colas were refillable too. If you have ever been to the United Kingdom or Europe you know that getting free refills is nearly impossible to find. You buy one drink for what we in America pay for unlimited drinks. Thankfully I found another restaurant aside from Pizza Hut that gives free refills. Taste wise, though, coke is coke. Really not too much to say about that.
In total my bill came to about six Great British Pounds. For comparison a Big-Mac combo meal at McDonald's, in England, costs over five Great British Pounds. Add in another combo meal and you are closer to nine or ten pounds. At least three pounds less of a better, larger meal at the Buffalo Grill! Moreover, it is at least ten pounds cheaper than the other cheapest restaurant in Cockfosters for the same food. Buffalo Grill is definitely a winner in my book.
Next time you drive through after a long run on the motorway be sure to stop by and give them your business too. Your stomach will thank you for it.
