Cococunt Oil For Managing Frizzy Hair

Mare Coogan
First of all, let it be known to each and everyone of you I've always had trouble managing my thick and dry curly hair. It seemed like whatever I used to control it, whether it was something I saw on TV or read in a magazine nothing ever seemed to work, that is, until now! My secret is coconut oil.

I started using it about the 3 years ago, about the same time I discovered the flat iron. Not only does it tame my hair but it gets rid of my frizzies and conditions my hair at the same time. Best of all, it's natural, relatively inexpensive and controls hair in all kinds of weather, from the high humidity in the Summer, to the dryness of Winter and everything inbetween. It even works wonders on hair that's been colored.

Cocunut oil usually comes in a 16oz. jar as a thick solid, kind of like vaseline. It's sold at most health food stores and some Walmart's if you're lucky! It's priced between $10--$15 and is pretty uniform (as far as I can tell) regardless of what brand you buy, it's kind of like comparing oranges to oranges. No big differences really...except for the price.

Although it's labeled as an oil, that only occurs when you dab a little of it between both hands, which then starts to liquify. All it takes to get started is a small amount, about the size of a penny, that you spread evenly throughout your hair. Instantaneously it binds the strands together without your hair looking oily or greasy. Not only does your hair relax but it also gives it a nice shine. For an extra bonus, it can be used on your legs, face or arms as a moisturizer. The thing I like the best about cocunut oil is it's an all around product, you can use it for a million things.

One caveat here, if you use too much of it in your hair it will look oily, so be careful when measuring!

Lastly, if this is the first time you're hearing about it don't be too surprised, you'll never see it on TV or for that matter read about it in a magazine. Why? Because It's the one product that actually works and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, it's the one thing advertiser's really don't want you to know about.
