Coconut Oil and Store Brand Soap

Robert Bowman
A common misconception that people have is that homemade soap using coconut oil is the same as what you would buy off the shelves in the high street. This is simply not the case as the soaps you find in the stores are what's called commercial products.

With commercial products there is a lot of steps being taken to manufacture these soaps and one of the steps taken is removing the natural glycerin from the soap and adding the ingredient back to the soap nearer the end stages.

While soap makers do use coconut oil in there products there is some debate over the difference between using the coconut oil in a homemade product and a store soap product on the high street. The difference being that there are various types of coconut oil and it is recommended to read the labelling on the product.

For people who have sensitive skin then it can be easier to buy the high street soaps as they use a blend of oils such as soy and corn oils, olive oil, shea butter and other vegetable based oils with or without the coconut oil in the soap.

An alternative to this is by simply making your own products and that way you are in control of the ingredients you use. This will give you a soap product that is accustomed to your skin. You can make soap with a variety of different ingredients. Natural ingredients are becoming ever more popular for people making soaps as it has huge healthy advantages and is gentler on the skin. You can not only benefit yourself from the products but this helps the environment as well.

By making your own soaps you therefore control the amount of chemicals that come in contact with your skin reducing the risk of skin irritation. You can use any kind of essential oils and create luxurious soaps for a fraction of the price that you would pay for organic products on the high street.
