Coffeesmiths in Cedar Rapids and Marion, Iowa: Serving More Than Just Coffee

Coffeesmiths, an independently owned coffee shop in the Cedar Rapids area has received rave reviews from the critics, but what does it really offer?

In short: a lot. The prices are reasonable, but more importantly, the drinks are delicious! The hot chocolate is particularly desirable, and it has an original taste. All of the drinks are made from fresh ingredients, and though they may take a little bit longer in the drive-thru, I like to think that the view is much better.

The main site, located on C Avenue NE, is nothing short of beautiful on the inside and out. Unlike other coffee establishments, it has high ceilings and exposed ducts. Everything has rich, earthy tones, and the fireplace is as welcoming as they come. Customers often dawdle after they've finished their orders, but that's not exactly unexpected at this type of business. The outside brick is a breath of fresh air, when so often architecture isn't even considered. The aesthetics make Coffeesmiths individual, but truly incredible.

As far as the menu goes, it's nothing particularly out of the ordinary, but it is quality. They have brownies and bars, but the bakery favorite is their cinnamon rolls. In addition to these sweet treats, they serve Panini sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups. Their "veggie lover's" Panini is particularly delicious, and that isn't just from a vegetarian's point of view.

If, however, you find yourself on 1st Avenue (or Marion Boulevard as it's called in that neck of the woods), you can always try the drive-thru location. Their hours vary by season, and they don't have the menu selection the other location offers, but the drinks are still as sensational. It's so close to Starbucks, but if you are feeling like a change, Coffeesmiths is definitely worth your dime (and your time).
