Coheed and Cambria: 5 Things to Know

Coheed and Cambria took the stage in Mansfield, Massachusetts on Sunday without bassist Michael Todd. The musician, who goes by the name Mic (pronounced "Mike"), was arrested just before show time after allegedly robbing a pharmacy to get prescription painkillers. The band's name derives from a series science fiction comics written by frontman Claudio Sanchez titled The Amory Wars. Coheed and Cambria are the first names of the story's two heroes, whose story is used as a narrative for each of the group's albums. They chose the name during a 1998 trip to Paris. 2. Todd wasn't an original member of the group. He joined founders Sanchez and Travis Stever when their bass player from the previously titled group, Shab¼tie, called it quits in 1996. Todd initially only played guitar, picking up bass specifically for the new band. 3. The group released their first studio album in 2002 via Equal Vision Records. The concept album is technically their second in a five-part series and was re-released in 2005 with three previously unreleased bonus tracks. 4. Enlisting a revolving door of musicians over the years, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins filled in the band's fourth release. Current drummer, Chris Pennie, had just joined the group but was held to contractual restrictions with a previous label at the time. 5. Coheed and Cambria have several songs featured on the video game Rock Band, including "Welcome Home" and "Guns of Summer."
