Coke Classic Versus Coke Zero

Similar Taste with a Lot Less Calories

As many women (and men) can tell you, dieting is no fun. Trying to get into shape can be a pain. However, losing weight is getting easier if you know exactly what to do to achieve that dress size and weight loss goal. I have been trying to get into shape before walking eight miles in a local race this August. Knowing that exercise is great, but a healthy diet is also the key to attaining the ideal weight and a healthy lifestyle, I knew I had to find a way to take in fewer calories.

I am the first to admit that I like food and pop because they taste good. I enjoy a refreshing Mello Yello, though they rarely ever make this sweet, golden drink anymore, at least not in my area. I also know that Mello Yello has a lot more calories then the average pop, so I have been trying to avoid it anyhow. Knowing I cannot have it makes it easier. The fact that Coke Classic is so easy to find, has not helped in the least.

I come from a long line of Coke drinkers. My mother is a Coke fanatic. I remember when I was a child and she used to put the glass bottles of coke in the freezer. When you pulled one out it was cold, frothy and delicious. Giving up certain foods would never be my problem, but giving up caffeine, especially Coke, seemed near impossible.

Then I heard about Coke Zero. With Zero calories, the Coca Cola company claimed you could not really taste that much of a difference. For once, I saw a glimmer of hope. Could Coke Zero be the answer? Then I thought of Diet Coke. It claimed to be just as good, but I could never stomach the stuff and forget about my mother. She would not even think of buying Diet Coke.

I bought my first Coke Zero in a single bottle serving. I wanted to make sure it tasted good before spending money on a twelve pack. I was surprised. While Coke Zero is slightly sweeter than Coke Classic, and there are some minor taste differences, they really are not noticeable, especially when the Coke Zero is served cold. Coke Zero also lacks some of the burn that Coke Classic is known for, but it does not have an after taste like Diet Coke does. It also made me want to try other Coke Zero products, such as Sprite Zero and Cherry Coke Zero.

Coke Classic will always be my favorite Coke product (next to Mello Yello) of course. However, drinking Coke Zero has made my diet incredibly easier. Diet Coke does not even taste similar to Coke Classic so finding something close to the taste of the original Coke was very important to me. Luckily, there are relatively minor differences between Coke and Coke Zero especially when it comes to the taste of both of these soda pops.

My advice to anyone who is interested in trying Coke Zero is to get the cans. There is less chance of the cans going flat. Two litters do not always last. Besides, I find that the plastic often affects the taste of cola type pops. Keep the cans in the refrigerator and only take them out when you are ready to drink a can. Pop, in general, does not taste good warm. However, I find a cool but not cold Coke Zero emphasizes the sweetness and other differences, making it taste less like Coke Classic.

In the end, I am sure I will one day go back to Coke Classic, if only for an occasional drink. However, even my mom, the die hard Coke fanatic, is willing to drink Coke Zero so I think Coke has found a winning product.
