Coke or Pepsi?

The Better Choice

Have you ever wondered what is the most popular brand of soda? Is it Pepsi or is it Coke? This question plagued both my husband and I. He is the Coke drinker while I am the Pepsi drinker and we are contently having "arguments" about which brand is better. So, I decided to look the answer up. These statistics will amaze you or at least impress you.

According to this article from the Gala Group, when surveyed on the choice of drinks Pepsi and Coke maintained their dominate standing over all other soft drinks. This particular study showed that 98% of all consumers preferred sodas over any other drinks. This is the highest preference rating of any other category.

So, how many people choose Pepsi and how many choose Coke? Coke was listed as the preferred drink of 49% of the consumers surveyed and Pepsi was listed as the preferred drink of 42% of the consumers surveyed. Coke is the preferred choice but by a very slim margin. Both Pepsi and Coke are the dominating soda drinks and therefore gained the label of "Power Brands".

This did not settle well with me and so I dug deeper because I could not let my husband be right. Within the same article I found that Coke was listed number 5 on the top brands list and Pepsi was listed as the number 7 on the top brands list. This was determined by the brand name and the manager's consumer reports.

So, it would appear that Coke is the more popular choice, however, Pepsi is still in the running. Coke is only winning by a slim margin. I think Coke is the popular choice because of it's constant rewards program. Pepsi only has this type of program during the football season. That is my opinion but my husband's opinion is that Pepsi is too syrupy for a lot of people. So which would you choose, Pepsi or Coke?
