Colby O'Donis Colby O: Early Album Review

Does Akon's Protegee Deliver on His Debut Album?

The Reviewer
Say what you like about R&B singer Akon, but one thing is undeniable; he is an incredible judge of talent. He has delivered the world the omnipresent T-Pain and is now poised to release the heartthrob of Konvict Music in the bi-lingual Colby O'Donis. Will Colby be able to fill the shoes of his labelmates?

The first single off of Colby O is the Akon produced and featured track What You Got. Out of all the songs on the album, What You Got was the best first single choice. The song is catchy, well produced and written. The song also shows off Colby's guitar playing.

The second single, Don't Turn Back, is co-produced by Clinton Sparks and Akon. The track is a solid mid-tempo R&B track. The song is more urban than the first single yet it still connects with the audience.

Label mate T-Pain joins Colby on Natural High. The song is strictly a dance song. The track is one of the better songs on the album and rides a frenetic pace. T-Pain delivers a solid verse as well.

Romeo formerly Lil Romeo teams with Colby on Take You Away. The song is a fairly solid guitar driven mid-tempo track. The song is not one of the best tracks on the album but it is well done.

The up-tempo She Wanna Go features Houston rapper Paul Wall. The song features a lackadaisical verse from Paul Wall, besides that the song is fairly solid.

Sophisticated Bad Girl has a techno club vibe. The song is well performed vocally and features a solid melody. However, the beat distracts from the track.

Let You Go is one of the few ballads on the album. However, it is not a traditional ballad more in the line with Mario's Let Me Love You. The song is one of the better tracks on the album.

The Difference has a 1970's and 1980's vibe. The song is interesting sonically as it is vastly different than the rest of the album.

Game For You is another acoustic guitar driven track. The beat is one of the better tracks on the album and the harmonies and arrangements on the song work well.

Hustle Man is the traditional uplifting; everyone can be a star song. The song just sounds a little bit hokey; along the meaning is good.

Overall Colby O is a solid debut album. The album has a lot of very polished songs that work well. Overall Colby O gets 8 out of 10. If you are a fan of Colby O'Donis make sure you pick up Colby O when it is available in stores on September 16th.
