Colcha Canyon, Peru a Haiku

Sheri Fresonke Harper

farms low, we wait, rue, sky blue,
at last, condor soars

Andean condors are rather uncommon, they are found only in a few points in the highest parts of the Andes, Colcha Canyon in Peru is one of the places where you can see them. We traveled over 14,000 feet before descending to Colcha Canyon. They are identified by the collar of white around their neck and white patches on the wings. The picture (click on the one shown) of the condor is a female which like the immature lacks the white patches. They are a species in decline.
