Cold Northeastern Winters Require Space Heaters
Home Depot Winter Product Review: Soleus Air Space Heater: The Human Rotisserie
Some old buildings, such as mine, were built during the time when heaters were fueled with a basement full of guys shoveling coal into the furnace. Heating has been replaced with gas and electricity and the ultra-modern have been introduced to solar panels that take in the energy from the sun's rays to give free heating for the building's entire life.
For the rest of us, we still have to deal with cheap landlords and buildings owned by corporations. A balance sheet doesn't feel the cold so there hasn't been any money put into upgrading a building's heating system to a more efficient method. It would cost too much to replace an old furnace and heaven forbid, money get spent on heating at the expense of cutting into the profit. Instead, the heating situation is passed on to the tenants who must use space heaters or grandma's sweaters to make up for the lackluster lukewarm air that blows dust out of the vents.
Space heaters come in handy during the heavy winter snowstorms. It was only on a whim that I purchased this particular heater that has had surprising results. For once, something works! This must be a new company looking to break into the HVAC market. I recommend stocking up on these heaters before the company diminishes their product line in order to increase dividends.
I schlepped over to Home Depot to buy energy-efficient light bulbs and something for the bathtub. Since Home Depot was having a sale on toilet paper, I just happened to be there at the right time and right place. Next to the ass-wipe, there was a large stack of heaters that jumped out at me with boxes that advertised the heater as having "NO HARMFUL FUMES."
Okay, you got me.
"PRODUCES BIO-ENERGY HEAT THAT'S GOOD FOR THE SKIN."
I'm hooked. Go on.
"PROMOTES CELL REGENERATION AND BLOOD CIRCULATION."
I'm cooked.
"NO COMBUSTION TO DEPLETE OXYGEN FROM THE AIR."
I'm done.
I had to take a gamble on this heater at its $60 price tag. The last space heater I bought is filled with oil and smells bad. My lungs have taken a beating from the fumes but that's okay because the oil barrels are now over $100. What is a set of lungs compared to making money? Besides, the directions for the oil-filled space heater warned me: make sure that there is an open window while using the heater. Huh??? Did the directions for a heater say to place it next to an open window?
Having a window wide open didn't make sense to me so I used the oil heater once, praying the whole time not to get sick from the silent and deadly fumes steaming out of it. The damn thing is still stuck here in my closet because "hazardous materials" have to be disposed of properly. It can't just be thrown out on the street and nobody else wants a free heater. Why isn't this crap written on the box before buying it? Then it's too late to return it because the store won't take back an opened package. I got duped.
Upon opening up the new heater from Home Depot, there was a problem. Of course, what else is new? Tagged to the heater, there is an orange sign that says: STOP! PLEASE DO NOT RETURN THIS PRODUCT TO THE STORE!
I anticipated that it doesn't work while assembling it and plugging it in. Cursing the heater and everything Home Depot stands for, much to my surprise, the heater lit up with no problem. Ta-da! It works! The silver tower is glowing red with its infrared halogen rays that emulate the sun. It's like being cooked on the Caribbean without having to take a vacation. The heater is so small yet capable of roasting an entire room in minutes with its oscillating feature. It even comes with a remote, which makes my man very happy that he doesn't have to move to turn it on or off. At night, there's no need for extra blankets and I have been sleeping with my socks off.
If this heater really didn't work, I would not waste my time to write about it. If it will help to save someone's toes from becoming icicles during a heavy snowstorm then I have done my fair share of being a Good Samaritan. I know how hard it is to stay warm in the freezing winter and this heater is a real good deal.
