Cold-EEZE® Zinc Gluconate Lozenges Really Do Shorten the Duration of Common Cold

Many people seem to take getting a cold in stride. I am not one of them. I can barely tolerate the symptoms of the common cold, and for this reason I adhere to a routine that works every time to shorten the duration of a cold as well as to mitigate its symptoms. My method is to take zinc gluconate lozenges every two hours and at the earliest signs of a scratchy throat which is almost always an early sign that a cold has taken hold.

Zinc gluconate in the form of zinc lozenges are dissolved in the mouth. The makers of zinc gluconate products will tell you that their products will cut the duration of a cold in half, to approximately four days instead of eight or nine. These claims are true! They are so effective that I cannot understand why more people do not know about them and use them.

One can purchase zinc lozenges at a health food store or at most national drug store chains. Probably the most popular brand, found in drugstores and supermarkets is a form of zinc gluconate called Cold-EEZE®. I took Cold-EEZE® from the first signs of my last cold and the cold was not only mild, but only lasted for four days. I have done this in the past with other zinc gluconate products and had positive results, though not as strikingly effective as with Cold-EEZE®. I have found that other brands of zinc gluconate lozenges have a strange taste and leave one with a very unpleasant cottony feeling it the throat. Cold-EEZE®, on the other hand, are actually pleasant tasting and have no strange after taste or sensation. The honey lemon flavor -- made with real honey-- was also soothing on my throat and had no cloying or artificial taste. This perhaps made it easier to be consistent and persistent in taking the lozenges on a regular basis as suggested.

How does zinc work to shorten the common cold? According to the Cold-EEZE® website: http://www.coldeeze.com/: Rhinoviruses which cause most common colds have a negative (-) molecular charge. Zinc ions have a positive (+) molecular charge. Zinc ions are attracted to the rhinovirus like metal filings to a magnet. They keep the rhinovirus from effectively reproducing.

Clinical studies have also confirmed that zinc gluconate works. The Annals of Internal Medicine, 15 July 1996 , Volume 125 Issue 2, Pages 81-88, presents a report of a study entitled: Zinc Gluconate Lozenges for Treating the Common Cold: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study. The study concluded that: The time to complete resolution of symptoms was significantly shorter in the zinc group than in the placebo group. One can go to the website: http://www.annals.org/cgi/content/full/125/2/81 for the full details of the study.

Perhaps the most difficult part of the zinc gluconate regimen is that one needs to be dedicated in taking them regularly throughout the days until the cold's symptoms subside. In this case, persistence is very much worth it! Cold-EEZE® is, from my point of view, a breakthrough product because its pleasant-tasting lozenges make it entirely palatable to take regularly enough to achieve the promised results: a shortening of your cold and lessening of your misery.
