COLE SLAW RECIPE from a BAPTIST CHURCH

COLE SLAW RECIPE PASSED DOWN from ONE LADY to ANOTHER for GENERATIONS

Barbie Crafts
This is the BEST cole slaw I ever have tasted. I got this recipe from a group of ladies at a private school my daughter attended. It is really more of a "method"....mainly easy, common ingredients, but it's done a little differently. The "recipe" had been passed down through their church, and it is great! I use one bag of the prepared cole slaw mix, instead of grating my own. The church ladies, of course, grated their own.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need

One Bag of Prepared Coleslaw Mix, with carrots in it.

3/4 cup of mayonaisse

1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

6 1/2 teaspoons of sugar

One Tablespoon of Onion Powder

One teaspoon-to-one tablespoon salt...your choice. I like One tablespoon of kosher salt.

Steps1

Step One

Place one large bag of cole slaw mix in a plastic bowl. Mix in sugar and onion powder. Stir very well.2

Step Two

Add vinegar ..... Stir again very well. Leave it to sit on counter, and stir once for around 15-30 minutes. Stir again well. This step is very critical to the success of this cole slaw. You need to allow time for the vinegar to break down the sugar so it is not grainy textured.3

Step Three

Add 3/4 cup of Mayonnaise and salt and pepper. Cover cole slaw and chill.

Tips & Warnings

• I use the cole slaw mix with carrots. The original cole slaw recipe had carrots and onions grated in with cabbage. My family prefers the onion powder. You could use dried minced onion...or the real onion if you prefer..about 2 tablespoons finely minced.

• So GOOD on hotdogs. Always stir before serving. This cole slaw is delicious with barbecue, sloppy joes, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and ham and baked beans.
