Coleman Recalls Water Activated Spotlights

L.E. Duncan
Coleman has voluntarily recalled three models of their Waterbeam water-activated floating spotlights due to more than 33 reports of the lens assembly coming off of the main housing with enough force, when hitting users has resulted in numerous injuries including bruising, lacerations and minor burns.

Recalled Model Numbers

5338-782 (Orange)
5338-792 (Yellow)
2000000153 (Blue and White)

Determine if Your Spotlight is Recalled

To find whether your model is a recalled spotlight, remove the lens assembly from the main housing and the rubber shroud from the lens assembly. The model number is on a white sticker on the spotlight lens.

These Coleman Spotlights were sold at various sporting good and retail stores including Walmart between 2005 and 2010. If you determine that you have a recalled model, remove the batteries from the spotlight and contact Coleman by completing a customer information sheet on their website. You will receive instructions on their website on how to return the spotlight to them. Coleman will send you a 2 D-cell flashlight in return.

If you have been injured when using one of these spotlights, the Consumer Protection Safety Commission is still collecting data and would be interested in hearing from you via their website.

If the model number on the lens does not match one of the above numbers, your spotlight is not part of the recall and you can continue to use it according to the CPSC and Coleman. If you are interested in keeping up-to-date on product recalls, you can join the CPSC's email subscription list.
