I've used Colgin Natural Liquid Smoke for ages and I'm a dedicated fan of it's smoky aroma and taste. I recently decided to find out more about this product that has been a staple in my kitchen for many years. I found out that it's made by burning woods such as apple, hickory and mesquite using high temperature and moisture levels. They trap the smoke that is created by burning these woods, then the smoke is chilled, which causes it to liquefy and then the result is refined and aged for mellowness. I was happy to find out that it is an all natural product and no chemicals are used in its production.
I'm also pleased that Colgin Natural Liquid Smoke has zero calories and zero fat per serving. So that means that I don't have to worry about serving it to friends and family that may be on calorie or fat restricted diets. It's also Gluten Free and contains no Animal Byproducts. It's totally free of MSG, or monosodium glutamate as well. It does not need to be refrigerated so you can store it in your pantry without worrying about spoilage. It also has many beneficial antimicrobial and antioxidative properties and the compounds in the smoke are bactericides as well.
When it comes to menus, my family and I like to try new foods and new tastes. We've found that Colgin Natural Liquid Smoke really perks up foods and gives familiar dishes a totally new taste. For example, adding a small dash to home made cole slaw really adds a new dimension to that old family favorite. I have found that adding a half teaspoon to my "top secret" corn bread recipe makes everyone feel like they're enjoying dinner at a woodsy campground.
Colgin's website features a comprehensive list of recipes for those that need help in deciding menus and meals. They also have a store locator so you can find Liquid Smoke at your favorite grocer. Or, if you're a Colgin Liquid Smoke fanatic like me, their site also offers the chance to order their product in handy gallon sized bottles.
