Collaborative Team Creation

In order for our teams to work collaboratively they must include many characteristics. Collaboration is defined as "working together" (Neufeld, n.d.). In a team setting it is important for the members to have excellent communication with one another (Neufeld, n.d.). I believe that communication is the most essential component of all group or team work. If you do not understand how to communicate properly conflict will arise and disrupt the work. The team members must furthermore respect their fellow team members and cooperate with one another (Neufeld, n.d.). In an efficient group environment there should be performance advice and constructive criticism (Neufeld, n.d.). "There are times when offering constructively critical feedback is essential to maintaining excellence and strong relationships" (Walters, 2001). This helps guarantee that responsibilities are being accomplished as efficiently as possible. Gratitude comes from appreciating one another's group efforts. When someone does a superior job they should be rewarded with a pat on the back for their effort. This is a motivator for not only them but other team members because it is apparent that the groups work is appreciated (Neufeld, n.d.). Apparent goals should always be set in a team setting. If the goals are undefined the team will not know what they are working towards and motivation and effort will fail.

In my own personal experience work teams are highly important. When I worked as a Certified Nurse Aide in our local hospital, communication was always important. It has to be communicated when a patient's vital signs are not up to par. I had to be precise with whatever was wrong with the nurses, so they were aware of the situation. It was also a great motivator to be told by the nurses that I was doing a great job with keeping the patients' needs met. The nurses and I respected one another and it was shown through how we worked together. There was a sense of camaraderie between us. Our goals were clearly defined with each patient because of the care plans that were written for each. We had a proper understanding that it would take time to get each patient well and what it might take. As with any medical case though, you do not always know what is around the corner. The medical field is highly reliant upon team work. When teams fail all systems fail. Therefore it is imperative for all companies to realize the importance of teamwork. Companies need to have workshops that improve teamwork skills for all of their employees. Upper management should also be involved in the process.
