College Basketball: Memphis or Duke? Georgetown? Who's Tops?

Checking Out the Top of the College Hoops World

So...football season is officially over. Which means what?

Time for some college basketball!

And here's today's topic: Who's the best?

This is a 2-part question. Which team and which conference do you think are number one?

Team: While Memphis is undefeated and very deserving on their top ranking, I don't think they're the best team in the nation. I've gotta give this title to Duke right now. Undefeated in ACC play thus far, they've impressed me more than Memphis. But it's a very close margin, thanks to Memphis' ridiculous out-of-conference schedule. It's not like they aren't battle tested. But if Duke keeps their pace up in the ACC, no contest.

Conference: This is a toughie. The ACC has perennially been the toughest conference, and they have two legitimate #1 seeds at the top. But I'm picking the wildest and most entertaining conference thus far: The Big East. Currently with 11 teams having legit NCAA berth hopes, and everybody beating everyone else (except Georgetown mostly), this conference could take up a lot of those mid-range seeds in March. You cannot find a severe weakness in this conference: Even the worst teams have victories over somebody ranked!

So, that's my take. How about yourself?

Oh, and if you didn't know, I co-host a radio show on the campus radio station. You can get to the podcasts here.

Well, the Pats couldn't do it so I'm hoping Memphis can run the table (that is of course provided that Syracuse doesn't make a super duper surprise trip to the Final Four). I want to see a perfect season by somebody. Anybody.
