Graduation Gifts for the High School Student on Their Way to College

Alice Clair Gunkee
Many high school students will soon be graduating high school and on their way to college. Some students will attend college close to home so they will be able to stay at home and commute to their college classes when they are in session. Other students attend a college too far away for them to be able to commute. These students will most likely be living in a dorm or sharing an apartment with other college students. They will need numerous "gifts" or "things" to get them started in their new home. Following is a list of graduation gift ideas for the college-bound student.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Tech Support

Laptops are becoming a must-have for high school and college. To protect the investment of having a laptop a student will need a surge protector to plug his or her computer into. A wireless router is convenient for wireless Internet connections. In today's electronic world every other thing needs a battery, so a set of rechargeable batteries and charger will come in handy for the techno student. When batteries are in short supply students may have to revert to the old way of plugging their electronics straight into a power outlet. In those cases, an extension cord may come in handy.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Campus Closet

Chances are the closet a student has at home is bigger than the closet found in a dorm room. To make the most of small closet space they need to be organized. Help your favorite high school/off-to-college graduate get organized by giving them a hanging shoe organizer, tie and belt rack, drawer organizers, and storage bins or boxes.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Laundry for Freshmen

Students just leaving the nest for the first time may have to learn how to do their own laundry for the first time in their lives. To help that college student get started with their first load of dirty laundry give them a laundry basket filled with laundry supplies such as detergent, stain removers, fabric softener sheets, hangers. Even a jar full of quarters to feed the washer and dryer in the Laundromat will be much appreciated.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Kitchen Aid

A lot of new college students may have really early morning classes. To help them wake up and be alert for these classes give them a coffee maker along with some blended coffee and accessories needed to make coffee such as filters and sugar packets. Students will also need basic needs for the kitchen such as dishes and utensils.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Mr. Fix-it

If a college student is sharing an apartment there may be times when they need basic tools for repairing minor problems. A basic tool box with a hammer, tape measure, duct tape and a couple of screwdrivers sure could come in handy for them. To make their dorm room look homey, students will want to hang pictures or other wall decorations, so give a wall hanger set as a gift along with some cool picture frames.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Go Green

Welcome the college student to their new home with a gift of plants or flowers.

College-Bound Student Gift Ideas: Other

If none of these gift ideas sound like something your favorite graduate will need there is always the certain standby gift of cold hard cash. Do you know anyone that would turn down money? If you want to be more specific then give a gift card for gas, groceries or to a bookstore.
